Re: Victorian Route and Timetable Changes 2022
Sorry for a non-news post. The post about route 566 reminds me of my observation the other day along Plenty Rd. There used to be 3 bus routes between Tyler St. and Boldrewood Pde., but only route 566 remains today. I know route 567 got rerouted to travel direct along Tyler St. What happened to rout...

Re: Bus Strike Thursday 18th August
Yep, confirmed the 5:42AM 901 to Frankston driving off as people got off the 5:43 Lilydale train and navigated the maze of escalators that is Ringwood station. Isn't public transport rivalry just awesome. Yep, bring back the good old days of the Met where service coordination was promised as all se...

Re: Bus Strike Thursday 18th August
From the PTV website and also the PIDs, it seems that the CDC / Transdev bus strike has been called off and all buses running as normal tomorrow, Thursday 16th.

Re: Bus Strike Thursday 18th August
Transdev updated their Twitter account today with a message that NO Transdev services at all will be running on Thursday. Perhaps it really is time for Doncaster Rail... Well we know that don't we Krusty! You should have seen version 1 of the post... It would be interesting to know why those ...

Bus Strike Thursday 18th August
It seems Transdev and CDC drivers are striking on Thursday in support of changes to pay and conditions: https://www.ptv.vic.gov.au/news-and-events/news/industrial-action-affecting-transdev-and-cdc-buses-on-thursday-16-august-2018/ . Re: Double Deckers for Skybus
You might’ve spoken too soon. They posted an Instagram post several days ago stating they were “gearing up for Air Asia”, which could potentially mean that they’d be removing the current Spencer Street to Avalon route via the M1 and throughrouting the Spencer’s Street to Werribee service. I doubt i...

Re: Double Decker Buses Currently Operating In Australia
I think you should look up a couple of articles on the Net regarding Dee Decker Tours before suggesting I am being a tad harsh!! With respect, I was commenting on your comments about older double decker buses being "night party deckers, because they do nothing for the image of DD's and buses i...

Re: Double Decker Buses Currently Operating In Australia
I then decided to add the city sightseeing and airport buses, but I deliberately excluded those night party deckers, because they do nothing for the image of DD's and buses in general, being often full of half-drunk young people and also they mostly seem to be in a run down condition, just seeing t...

Re: New Trains for North east
The VLocity day was held today at Bairnsdale with a standard set, not the greatest for the full journey! True, but after being critical of the idea of the Vlocity platform replacing N-sets and travelling on some recently, they are better than I remembered to ride in and, as was pointed out to me at...

Re: 2018 Melbourne Bus Contracts
Has anyone seen the fine print in the new offer? It appears as if it is for 7 years and then? Up for tender? Doesn't appear to be any mention of another roll over of the contracts. Hasn't that been the case for the last few contracts? If you're just going to roll them over, why have contracts? It a...

Re: 2018 Melbourne Bus Contracts
In Victoria, if I read it correctly, those operators that signed up to the 10 year deal, will sell their assets lot, stock and barrel to the government at the end of the contract period, and their operation put out to tender I think one thing that was missed by the commentariat here is that the 10 ...

Re: Double Deckers for Skybus
They start Mel to werribee via tarneit soon. Will they through route to Avalon? The new services start July 1 from Werribee / Tarneit to the airport. Trips are free for the first 2 weeks - just in time for the school holidays! Could be a good opportunity to take the kids on a double decker bus for ...

Re: CDC Victoria News 2018
Ur referring to Ventura as the dominant operator here in the south east Krusty. Remember we have the smaller Pulitano family owned Cranbourne Transit too and i cant see them selling. I'm well aware that offers have been put to them in the past. True, I had forgotten about Pulitano. However, I would...

Re: CDC Victoria News 2018
Unexpected~! Not overly I would have thought. "Go or grow" I suspect is alive and well as it makes it easier for the PTV / DoT to manage as well as greater leverage over a larger operator who has more to lose than a smaller one. Look at the south east - one operator for all of the local-i...

Re: Transdev Melbourne News 2018
Next time they might just consider buying something a bit closer to home. With Volgren at our front door (or Malaysia these days), why did Transdev go with a British bus anyway? A quick look at the Volgren website suggests that they don't offer anything in that size of bus. Bit hard to buy a bus mo...

Re: Transdev Melbourne News 2018
I travelled on a couple of Mees buses this week on the 280. According to the Transdev guide, they are having trouble getting parts for the Solos. In theory that should also affect Ventura and South Coast Buses. Anyone else operate Solos? If true then might not exactly be the best sales pitch for se...

Re: Transdev Melbourne News 2018
I reckon a lot people have simply abandoned the route altogether though, not uncommon for trips to go long distances now without a single passenger... Hardly surprising given it seems to be the first against the wall when there's an issue. Optare Solos were moved to other routes during the first pe...

Re: High Speed Rail - Air travel
There is no way passenger trains can go faster than 160kph without building completely new lines in most places Yeah? "No way"? Interestingly the study I read at the time on the RFR project suggested the key impediment was the need to grade seperate any line operating over 160 km/h, not t...

Re: High Speed Rail - Air travel
I think we need to consider which modes serve which purposes efficiently. People get hung up on rail serving fast direct routes between state capitals, but the reality is that it may be better to use rail to link significant regional towns to a major city at each end. The purpose of the Sydney - Mel...

Re: Transdev Melbourne News 2018
Have to pity any seniors or lost souls who follow their advice, because for a typical trip from Westfield to say Baratta Street, instead of taking 12 minutes on the #282, it would take 1 hour and 46 minutes using the #280, including a 38 minute long wait at The Pines  Given the service run...

Re: All Other Victorian Bus Observations 2018

Should add about 5 minutes to each of my journeys to and from work based o...
