Re: New Mercedes for Lonsdale

that front is hideous - it's almost a throw back to the old square front of days gone by the less said about the windscreen the better. Suppose it saves a few dollars by just having a larger square section then the two small curved sections on the side but it's not a good look with those pillars. T...

Re: Dyson Group News 2017

Following a trend begun in NSW where Punchbowl took over Goulburn B.S. and Forest have now acquired two operations around Coffs Harbour. Not to mention Busways having taken over all those North Coast towns that were ruined by the King bros. Surely the granddaddy of that would be JA Gilbert (now the...

Re: CDC NSW Rebranding

CDC NSW's website now features the same CDC logo as that used by CDC Victoria - this is a recent change as the last recorded capture of the site on archive.org still had the joint-venture CDC logo. My guess is that we will see the new CDC logo applied to the NSW fleets with the appropriate strapline...

Re: Secret Proposal Leaked To Construct Elevated Rail Line!!

Bell Street at the level crossing is not an Over-Dimensional route - OD1 previously turned north up High Street, and the route has recently been shifted to Rosanna Road, Greensborough Road and the M80 Ring Road. As a result Bell Street only needs the 5 metre minimum clearance which is standard for n...

Re: 2018 Melbourne Bus Contracts

It is also worth noting that your typical tagger in some areas is not who you might think. It's easy to assume the offender is from the outer fringe suburbs on the south east or western side of town where portions of the population tend to be a little more "unwashed" however one of the worst areas ...

Re: 2018 Melbourne Bus Contracts

Which is why something that encourages those smaller operators to remain - and grow - should be implemented, even if it means knocking a few points off the larger players. Heck, if you want you could dump Transdev at the earliest opportunity and carve up the MMBF to accommodate the smaller players.

Re: 2018 Melbourne Bus Contracts

Why hasn't the government caught on yet and ordered a shake up of the bus services themselves? Some of them need to be canned completely and replaced with something that doesn't look like someone dropped spaghetti on a Melway map. Others need to be upgraded so they actually follow the minimum servi...

Re: 2018 Melbourne Bus Contracts

I remember in 1988 when the then Cain government led by transport minister,Jim Kennan, wanted to tender out the private route services. From memory Melbourne was broken up into ,I think, just under 50 individual tranches. But back then there were over 30 operators on route service. Now only 13. Re: 2018 Melbourne Bus Contracts

The idea is to have a contract regime that sits somewhere between the large contract areas used in places like Sydney and the individual route contracts used in London. It would also mean more sustainable small operators by having a critical mass of work in an individual group of routes - think of i...

Re: 2018 Melbourne Bus Contracts

At the risk of dredging up a previous idea of mine, what may work best would be to carve up the network into groups of no more than ten routes and offering contracts for those. Such a size would allow coverage of a sufficiently large area whilst being small enough to allow smaller players to continu...

Re: 2018 Melbourne Bus Contracts

I am fully expecting that responses on this forum to this news will fall into two broad categories: either the State Government is to be condemned for moving to destroy businesses built up over many years simply to implement competitive tendering for all metropolitan bus services, or the State Gover...

Re: PTV: Proposed bus network upgrade for Casey

Slightly off topic, but one would think by now it has to be time for Cranbourne Transit to look at a new depot. The existing depot already doesn't provide for staff parking onsite due to the lack of room and you would also need to be thinking about dead running now considering the amount of buses s...

Re: $1.7 billion order for new Waratah trains signed

Watched a 7news report on the new trains. The AWMU complaining about local content. How come Victoria can do it but we can't or is the cost far too high to do it locally. I have feeling there is going to be some headline saying driver shortage or lack storage for the trains. Looking back at the Mel...

If the choice was between these two options only I would go for Option A. Re: PTV: 343 Greensborough - Hurstbridge Link

For those wondering about the political landscape, the two state seats that the proposed route traverses - Eltham and Yan Yean - are marginal ALP seats (2.69% and 3.65% respectively). With such margins in place it would be highly unlikely that trains past Eltham or Diamond Creek would be withdrawn i...

V/Line is looking at something similar. Perhaps NSW and Vic could put in a joint order, or, operate a new joint venture??? Overlooking the instant answer that it couldn't possibly happen as both states are too proud to submit to a joint program, there is merit in the idea. Personally I wouldn't min...

Well there is the news of Metro entering into discussions with the government regarding their contract - most likely for an extension although anything is possible at this time. Any announcement regarding trams would be simply to exercise the option for more E-class trams (and I'm not sure where you...
