I always liked the lay up at Busaco Rd. Quiet, lots of trees and birds.

Not to mention that it's easier to start driving on a shorter bus before moving on to the longer models.

Re: Fare Evasion

Last time I was in Melbourne it was my impression that about half the passengers on any one tram didn't bother to tap on with MyKi. The readers are also inferior to Opal readers, sometimes taking several attempts to register.

Re: STA Observations - November 2015

On Friday I was amazed to see a Y gas bus doing a 202 outbound to Northbridge. Is that on a regular roster? Driver was obviously unfamiliar with the route and missed a stop.

Re: Introducing OPAL Card

I don't see a lot of "enforcement" by bus drivers but there's probably a lot of variation. Drivers don't have too many options when kids don't have their pass - they are not allowed to refuse travel for a kid in uniform under any circumstances. I was once at North Sydney Station on a 209 when a rev...

I've used my employee pass on light rail - no problems.

I believe private buses are a bit hit & miss - depends on the driver.

Re: Experts rubbish WestConnex Motorway

Tim Williams, CEO of the Committee for Sydney said in the Sydney Morning Herald - "There is an international delusion that you can reduce congestion by building or widening roads. You can't." You hear this a lot, but it's self-evidently not true. Try to tell me that the Eastern Distributor didn't r...

Re: New TfNSW bus stop signage

The "route excepted" signs are usually near an intersection where the excepted route turns right - the bus can't get into the stop and then make it across for the RH turn.

Re: Time to give route 207 to Forest?

What would be the point? East Linfield is only about seven minutes from Willoughby Depot, it's not like there is much dead running involved, as there would be if Forest were operating the service.

Re: Introducing OPAL Card

Could I just clarify? My wife has a new Opal card set up for auto top-up. We caught the Neutral Bay Ferry last night and the balance was about $13. On return trip, tapped on and balance showed about $8. Back at Neutral Bay, tapped off and it said "Low Balance!" - about $2.50. Is this functioning as...

Re: Introducing OPAL Card

There's heaps of downside. You drop your PET in the street, you carry $2.50 in your handbag and buy another one. You drop your Opal, you have to deal with phones, and computers, and wait a week before you can go to the shops and the doctor again. If you put your PET down on the wrong table in your ...

I can't really understand any whinging about the Opal Seniors card. It has all the functionality of the PET, with added convenience. It's a better product with no downside.

Re: Introducing OPAL Card

That doesn't prove anything actually. Auto top up happens regardless of whether there is back to base connectivity. The reader itself sees the low balance and the fact that auto top up is enabled. The card balance is locally updated; the central system and web site may be updated much later. Could ...

With light rail classified as a "bus" for Opal purposes, presumably one would run into the 60 minute transfer problem.

I wonder if the driver was in danger of running over 5 hours on duty? In my experience it's unheard of to short run a service just because it's running late.

Re: Use of Back Door on Buses

When I was driving for STA I would generally try to enforce the 15 standing rule. The reason for this is that if you had an accident, there were more than 15 standing, and someone was hurt, STA and the other authorities would hang you out to dry. My impression was that passengers already on-board ap...

A full-time STA driver gets about $24.20 an hour. But as someone else has mentioned, a significant portion of the take-home pay is in penalties and overtime.

Don't forget that transfers are the norm on the Paris Metro. People will cop it as long as the service frequency is sufficient that they don't have to wait for very long when transferring.

I don't see why you would have to tap on on the new bus. If you were using a travel ten and the bus broke down you wouldn't be required to dip your ticket again on the replacement bus.

Caught brand new Willoughby Bustech this morning (2631?).

1) Is it my imaginagion, or are the seats a little narrower than standard?

2) That stop signal two-tone hooter is surely going to send the drivers insane?
