Re: Sydney Metro - Tallawong to Bankstown

The general thrust of the argument makes sense though. Sydney (and all of Australia, to varying degrees) face a shortage of affordable housing. Drivers, depending where they work, may make relative fortunes but still find housing quite expensive if they don't already own their own home. The industry...

Re: Bus Observations 2024.

Is it anything to do with some (or maybe all?) being three-axle? 14.5m rigids, and even artics, are incredibly restricted in terms of where they can be used, depending on what state or territory you happen to be in.

Re: Bus Observations 2024.

Why aren’t yard marshals doing pre duty allocation vehicle checks and writing up the defective back door in the maintenance book As it is typically the job of the driver to carry out the correct pre-departure checks, log the defect (if not ask for another bus - easier said than done!), and hope it ...

Re: P179 renumbering to P183

They're reviewing what is relevant to the Metro. I believe the P129 is actually to be withdrawn, or rolled into the revised 131/135. The last time Translink tried reviewing the network, they made the foolish mistake of trying to do the whole thing, it upset the Council and Community, and basically e...

Re: P179 renumbering to P183

StationLink 109 is turning into the 19 on this date too. The New Network proposed a P109 from Acacia Ridge (but not Pallara... Sigh) to the City - perhaps the rollout of some of those route changes has been brought forward?

Will depend a lot on how much damage the chassis received, and if that damage can be repaired at all, not to mention if it is economical.

The Optimus-style headlights on the CR224L are ghastly... Why you'd want to replace those awesome halogens with those shockingly ineffective LEDs/projector high beams, I don't know.

Re: Timetable Changes 2024,

And we still have the farcical situation where both journey planners and at stop PIS displays show the destination for the inbound journey as Taronga. Same thing happens on the 373 from Coogee to Museum. I wonder if this could be resolved by running distinct inbound and outbound trips internally, w...

Re: Staffed Metropolitan Train Stations

Most of the newer stations on the network with bus interchanges are "closed" stations, with staff present basically from first until last train monitoring the fare gates. Warwick and Whitfords are unusual in the sense that the bus interchange is actually located within the fare gates, so i...

Re: History of Perth Bus Train & Ferry Routes

The lack of publicised connection information completely upsets Google Maps, as I recently discovered. Want to catch a train from Fremantle to Midland? Google will have you "change trains" at Perth, because it doesn't comprehend the existence of a through service. What about a Bus to train...

Re: Political discussion

America could do so much better than Trump or Biden; I'm sure there are very promising younger candidates within both parties, but for whatever reason it seems the US are keen to break their record of the oldest elected president. The analogy seems to be like that of trying to convince an elderly pe...

I suppose not everyone hits their weekly caps, but it seems a bit counter-intuitive to raise fares when it will only make regulars that do hit the cap, hit it faster.

Is the Sydney fare system still penalising interchange? Why is a mode whose major selling point, full automation, costs more for an equivalent journey to a bus (at least in reference to the point above)?

Re: Upgrades to the Mt Barker bus services

It was alluded to in a post in the NSW subforum (among several others in that thread) that Bustech appear to be experiencing delays in bodying buses for customers - however as you'll notice, there was some debate as to whether this was the delayed arrival of Scania chassis or a hold-up with Bustech ...

Re: WA Bus Observations 2024

At a rough guess I'd say that was a rail replacement shift covered by Karrinyup - not unheard of, Rockingham, even Mandurah, Joondalup and Wangara buses (when Transdev still ran things up there) were common sightings on stadium event days or Perth to Cockburn rail replacement in times past.

Why oh why oh why does Busways INSIST on broadcasting FM radio on (some of?) their Central coast services? Interesting with the 502 they're extending a small number of trips that were previously short-workings. I can't say I understand why Leach Hwy/North Lake Rd is chosen as the starting point for the short-working trips bound for Fremantle, when the bus could instead make a right turn onto Sainsbury Rd...

Can't remember where, specifically, nor did I get a photo (as I only got a fleeting glance passing in a bus), but saw a very nice, well-optioned older Laser the other day. Or at least I think it was a Laser - been so long since I actually saw one! The standout feature, besides the gleaming paintwork...

One thing that really stands out is that the 386 gains an extra late-night trip on Saturday night departing Perth Busport at 1am. Even now, the 12:30am last trip is the last northern suburbs bus departure from the city other the 950, and only the 115 down south bests it by 2 minutes at 12:32am, so ...

I'm not sure who was behind the acquisition of those two solitary double deckers, but is it really the Council's job to satisfy the whims and fancies of either the state government or the operator(s) who have run these two buses, when they (and ultimately their ratepayers) have to burden the increas...
