Re: STA Observations 2021

Reminds me of the good old days when Ryde received about 75 brand new Citaros and then to "balance" it out, lost all their mid-age buses and received over 100 Mk 2 Mercs which were over 20 years old at the time!

Re: STA Observations 2021

If I'm reading the list correctly, Ryde is down to its last two CB60 Volvo B12BLE Euro 5s - 2287 and 2288. Presumably Waverley bound in due course.

Re: Jan 2021 bus changes - STA region 7

Yes you're right...I forgot about this "high frequency, loop through the city" fetish. Route 130/260 here we come. 1000s of new services for passengers a week blah blah. As a bonus, they get to kill the 200 while they're at it.

Re: Jan 2021 bus changes - STA region 7

Agree that this move is obvious, but unclear why they didn't do this during last year's changes in that region? My tip would be: * 254 and 291 extended to CBD - combined 30 minute frequency makes up for loss of 320. * 265 extended back to McMahons Point. But since this service does not have the same...

Re: December Bus Changes - Northern Beaches and Lower North Shore

To return to our earlier discussion about the dismal decline of Willoughby depot. As at 11am this morning, there are 12 buses operating Epping Rd services. Every single one of these is from Ryde (Volvo CB80 or Volvo Volgren or Mercedes 0500). So the old 14.5m shifts have finally been moved over. Of ...

Re: December Bus Changes - Northern Beaches and Lower North Shore

Stu, with all of the information you provide you are the absolute star contributor on this board - thank you. What are your thoughts on the current utilisation rate at Willoughby? When I first saw that they were losing 144, 257 and 200 and weekend 263s I assumed they would pick up more Epping Rds. H...

Re: Jan 2021 bus changes - STA region 7

Weekend 252s seems to be M depot now. Weekdays is the usual mix of Y and M. Seems to be more Y buses than before on Epping Rds too.

Re: Jan 2021 bus changes - STA region 7

I always assumed the reason those routes didn't use the Cahill outbound was that the corkscrew onto the bridge would make the trip longer - not a bid deal for the individual trip, but adds to the operator mileage over the year. That, and the difficulty of making a right hand turn into Bridge St .

Re: Jan 2021 bus changes - STA region 7

Another last minute change - route 115 was previously advertised as terminating at Australia Square, Pitt St. It's now shown as terminating in Bridge St and then outward trips using the Cahill Expressway. Looks like buses will actually layover in Bridge St and not Gresham. Feels like a loop service,...

201 and 263 should be running to Wynyard, to match all other Region 8 routes.

Re: STA Observations 2020

Is it my imagination, or are most recent transfers into and within STA, vehicles with odd numbers. For the Bustechs to Mona Vale and the Volvo B10s to Waverley, I noticed that too. Other transfers don't follow this pattern. Reminds me of the 1980s when Mk 2 and Mk 4 Mercs were allocated on an odd/e...

Re: Jan 2021 bus changes - STA region 7

Once you get the hang of it, it's pretty straightforward. The only ambiguity is that frequent routes are always depicted in the same colour, regardless of their 'home' region.

Re: Jan 2021 bus changes - STA region 7

Wonder where 115 will terminate - just says "city". You'd assume QVB to match 120, but then the two services actually wouldn't have much passenger crossover.

The choice of route number 115 suggests 114 will also be Region 8.

You can customise them. I got my Mk 1 renumbered (fleet and route numbers) it was a few years ago so can't remember the cost but it wasn't too bad.

Re: TRAX MODELS STILL AFTER!

You can get pretty much the whole Trux catalogue on Ebay - someone's just put up a Mk 3 for $110. Can't see the Mk 2 but my guess is that they would come up pretty often.

Ironically there is a Mk 2 model for sale, but it's the TransitGraphics one, 193 to Whale Beach.

Re: STA Observations 2020

Interesting times. Almost inevitable the 343 will be split. However, perhaps they will terminate the northern part at Gresham St and transfer the 263 to Wynyard so that each region has distinct termini.

Re: STA Observations 2020

with the disappearance of route 257, will M depot pick up some 144s and 160x? Particularly as they are likely to lose 200, 343 and 340 to the East as there is now extra capacity there owing to the light rail.

Re: Loftus Tram Museum

For me, the most enigmatic R1 class tram at Loftus is 2044. I can only find one photo of it on the internet and despite having visited Loftus and ridden on 1979 etc, I can't ever remember seeing 2044.
