Re: Broadway Light Rail?
Extending the L1 is probably the best arrangement from an operational perspective. But trams are already struggling to get around the curve from the ramp into Hay St, no way they could turn the corner into Pitt St without demolishing a heritage building or two? This issue was discussed when the pro...

Re: Broadway Light Rail?
Clover Moore surprises me with her sudden love of Light Rail. Did she not want to convert the L2/L3 to bike lanes? What are you on about? Clover Moore and the City of Sydney was a main proponent of the L2/L3 light rail at the start. She was a key convener of the Sydney Light Rail Round Table in 201...

Re: Rail Observations 2023
There were no trains at all in Sydney Terminal (platforms 1-12) this weekend due to trackwork. Blue Mountains trains were mostly terminating at Blacktown for example. I'm sure that's why the XPT terminated at C'town.

Re: CBD & South East Light Rail
Except the Grand Concourse, located right next to that stop, has all the necessary signs and maps. You need only walk tens of metres in the most obvious direction from the L1 stop to find exactly where you need to go. Also worth nothing that network maps and any directions apps (such as Trip Planne...

Re: CBD & South East Light Rail
Had to assist some tourists at the L1 stop at Central trying to find a tram to Kingsford there. It made me realise the way finding is really substandard - there's no signs from the L1 stop clearly pointing the way to L2/L3, or vice versa. Just generic L's in circles which don't distinguish between t...

Re: Opal Discussion and Observations
Transit mode is a reader configuration where the phones recognise a transit card reader and don’t require unlock or card selection (you set the transit card in the wallet app). This makes the transaction more like tapping opal than using a credit card in terms of speed and experience. This still is...

Re: Ferry Observations 2023
There's a huge backlog for the dry dock at Garden Island, as the Navy has a large number of broken ships and has been invoking their priority privileges over the Captain Cook graving dock. As a result many commercial bookings are delayed by months - I suspect this is what's delaying Queenscliff. Alt...

Re: Southern Highlands Line Trackwork Improvements
Are these speed restrictions due to earthwork instability after the major rains of 2020-2022 ? I would have thought they should have been able to stabilise things by now, but I know there were a LOT of places affected.

Re: Sydney Metro - Tallawong to Bankstown
Think people are getting their wires crossed. The Metro from Sydenham through to Bankstown will be completed, albeit delayed by a year or so and with a shutdown of up to 15 months. It is the extension beyond to Glenfield that the incoming government is not proceeding with. Yes, Minns has confirmed ...

Re: Sydney Metro - Tallawong to Bankstown
Pretty sure that there are new escalators to 12/13 and 14 either side of the Metro concourse. Thanks, the ones to 12/13 weren't visible from the vantage point I had. The early concept diagrams show the original access to 12/13 from the old tunnel, but this is gone now, so it seems this part of the ...

Re: Sydney Metro - Tallawong to Bankstown
Escalators at the Town Hall end of the concourse beneath platforms 16 - 23 at Central have opened along with a second set of elevators. Minor point, but Monday's changes are for platforms 16-21 specifically. The elevator and southern escalators for platform 22/23 were already open for last few mont...

Re: 2023 NSW Election
That's costing SA taxpayers heaps of money plus foregone savings. If NSW is as short of money as Minns says, they shouldn't be looking to spending more on something purely ideological and without any benefits. I'm not in disagreement with the general point that bus privatisation cat is out of the b...

Note - diesels are the only departures from Sydney Terminal this afternoon. CCN trains are starting at Strathfield and South Coast from platform 25. Moss Vale direct services and XPL/CPT are also running. Don't all SCO weekend services start from Bondi Junction anyway? Yes, most do, but it's also n...

Re: Rail Observations 2023
Thanks Scott, that's helpful! I suppose extra timetabled stop at St. Mary's must have to do with the Pilot Staff Working. I notice that Tripview showed the stop as "skipped" - perhaps that was their way of indicating the stop was not for passengers to board or alight.

It seems like the closure of Darling Drive to remove the pedestrian walkway was not in effect today. However the real pig in the replacement bus timetable is the route to Darling Drive. We went: Central western concourse - down the colonnade, right Hay St, left Elizabeth St, left Goulburn St, contin...

I noticed that the Bathurst bullet 15:05 departure was running from platform 1 today, despite all other Mountains services curtailed at Penrith, with first stop tabled as St Mary's (next stop Katoomba). I assume it also picks up at Paramatta, Penrith, Springwood as normal but interesting that St Mar...

Is it strictly necessary to have a crossover regularly accessible during testing? Wouldn't they mostly be manually driving and could operate in both directions on each track?Engineering wrote: ↑Tue Mar 28, 2023 6:17 am

Captain Cook / Sealink vessel The Jackson Flyer is replacing Me-Mel on the F10 service today. Not sure what this vessel is typically used for, but maybe private transfers /charters - it's configured like a large water taxi with comfortable lounge seats. It must be tricky to find a replacement vessel...

Where is there an announcement about a Bankstown Line delay? In my day it was running across the road, but I don't think that'll work too well nowadays, especially for me. I'm pretty sure there's going to be a ped underpass there, if not an overhead bridge, but more likely the former because of ground levels. There's a very strong bias against building new p...
