Freo CAT can be operated by private companies like the Cottesloe CAT. Alternatively, a FTZ around the City of Fremantle can be set up. The southern boundary would be South Street, the northern boundary would be Swan River and the eastern boundary would be East Street.

A privately-run service catering particularly for the tourism segment might be successful, certainly more so than the existing or pre-Covid service.

When the services were cut, the justification for removing the Red CAT was that it catered predominantly for cruise ships (albeit not very well, IMO). Even on a quiet day the 15min headway was impossible to maintain with one bus, given the congestion around Fremantle; throw in a cruise ship and the crowds those generate, and the service completely unravelled. A private tourism operator would have the ability to boost capacity when they knew it was needed, and run the service anywhere they saw fit.

I wonder if Town of Vic Park is also involved as it serves this particular council area most.

Heads up, I don't think the Orange CAT is actually real - there have been no Tweets or Facebook posts from politicians, nor any Transperth announcements or Media Statements on it. The one place I have seen it is a Discord server where, aside from posting actual updates, there has been one person making fantasy posters for their own ideas (which the author usually keeps in that server without distributing anywhere), so this is likely someone else thinking that it's real without double-checking.

EDIT: Statement from the author:
Author of poster wrote:The story of this poster is that it was posted on a Discord server as a joke. Someone saw it on the Discord server thinking it was real and posted it to Facebook and Instagram without permission and now the fake poster has been spread further. It is not real.
I'd post any important, bus-related links I had, but they're outdated anyways.

Ahh, fake news.

That said, if only it could come to fruition after the Freo CATs get defunded.

Interesting how the latest high-frequency promo on Transperth's web page does not list the 955 service! If it is not a high frequency service change the route number!! Route 340 is now available, but I guess everything will wait till the opening of the Ellenbrook rail line.

You'd think if Ellenbrook was so desperately in need of a rail link, that the only viable means of accessing it would run later than about 8pm on a Sunday night. It must be one of the only line-haul services that have such abysmal weekend service span.

Yes, the 341 and 342 are also available, although it's interesting these dead-end routes seem to have the superior service levels.

On the flip side, doesn't 292 satisfy the rules of a high frequency route? 945 has a nice ring

Maybe 292 is a temporary measure until the Qantas airport terminal issues are sorted?

In which case they might not want to give it a route number type that should be an enduring high frequency service (like a tram).

I reckon the route 955 would be split in different routes once Morley-Ellenbrook Line opens, let say maybe using the route number 333 (Ellenbrook Station - Annie's Landing), 340 (Bassendean - Morley), 354 (Bassendean - Ellenbrook Station) respectively (it's just a rumour).

Looks like the southern half of the 955 (Galleria - Bassendean - proposed Bennett Springs station) is shown on that proposed Superbus network map that was doing the rounds a few month back.

(Source: https://www.skyscrapercity.com/threads/ ... -180924898)

For what it's worth the other planned routes appear to be:
*Current 371
*Current 415
*Mirrabooka - Alexander Heights (extension of the 970??)
*Perth - Malaga Station via Alexander Drive (not sure if this replaces or is in addition to the current 960)
*Extension of 950 or 980 (or both) to the Ellenbrook line
*Perth - Maylands replacing the inner core of 41 to 55
*Perth - Canning Bridge replacing 30 and 31
*Current 100
*Current 507
*Perth - Subiaco and Shenton Park (possibly extensions of 930 and 940?)
Catch a Traklink bus and you're on the train.

From the same presentation above, there are some interesting figures given for 2021 patronage of 900s-series routes, which can be compared to data from the 2017 Auditor General's report. Unfortunately, the 2017 report presents data in ranges, so it's difficult to determine the exact change in patronage; however, growth over the four-year period is at least +33% for the 935, +87% for the 960, and +70% for the 970.
  • 910: 1.00-2.00 million in 2017 vs 1.4 million in 2021
  • 915: 0.75-1.00 million in 2017 (as the 501) vs 0.8 million in 2021
  • 935: 0.50-0.75 million in 2017 vs 1.0 million in 2021
  • 950: 3.00-4.00 million in 2017 vs 2.8 million in 2021
  • 960: 0.50-0.75 million in 2017 vs 1.4 million in 2021
  • 970: 0.25-0.50 million in 2017 vs 0.85 million in 2021
  • 990: 1.00-2.00 million in 2017 vs 1.1 million in 2021
  • 995: 0.40 million in 2021 (in 2017, the route was still part of the 102/107)
The 935 was a re-numbering of the former 37, whereas the 960 and 970 were introduced to replace limited-stop services along their respective corridors, with the 960 also extending as a through-route to Curtin University. All three of the routes began service in late-2016. It's also interesting to note that 950 patronage declined slightly between 2017 and 2021, likely due to Covid-19 reducing commutes to UWA.

Hmm, 930 was left out?

Also, 507 should be due to receive a Superbus upgrade if demand remains strong for this one.

Looks like Albany have some sort of time changes with some sort of additional services from 3 July 2023.

Additional 808 trip departs at 11:23 on weekdays, the last trip for 808 on weekdays terminates at Centennial Park. On Staurdays the first trip commence from Mawson Street at 7:28.

Route 803 departs 11-14 minutes later on weekdays.

A number of bus services either side of the river (but concentrated on Swan contract areas) will be undergoing service changes from 16 July. General emphasis seems to be removal of a small number of late evening services in exchange for earlier first trips - notably, the first weekday 388 departing Warwick at 4:34am!

Looks like it links to the first airport service of the day. It arrives at Perth Busport at 5:03 and the first Airport line train leaves Perth station at 5:12.

It serves the inner section of Wanneroo and Charles St, passing through the most densely populated suburbs in Perth.

I would have thought that was Alexander Drive, considering it is traversed by a 900 series route.

While the answer is still the same, perhaps Enviro meant why the 388 was chosen over improving the 970? I'd have thought the true high-frequency corridors would have a degree of priority for improvements to span to improve connectivity with the greater network.

Of course, given the intensity of service along Wanneroo Rd, I imagine there is a hope to roll out a high-frequency service along there at some stage, and this counts towards that effort.

The situation along Wanneroo Road is similar to that of Cambridge Street and Guildford Road.

Sure, Wanneroo Road can get a 900 series route eventually, but where should it terminate? Currently, 384-389 offer pretty good connection to the CBD from that corridor.

Additional 808 trip departs at 11:23 on weekdays, the last trip for 808 on weekdays terminates at Centennial Park. On Staurdays the first trip commence from Mawson Street at 7:28.

Route 803 departs 11-14 minutes later on weekdays.

Timetables updated:
  • Albany Bus Timetable 1, 2
Now a 65 minute frequency on the main routes :? Although given that the running times have been lengthened, it seems that maintaining the hourly clockface would've needed a extra bus (at added cost).

BTW does anyone know what the future is for TransEsperance now that the 12 month trial period is nearly up?
Catch a Traklink bus and you're on the train.
