Some images of the heavy metal aircraft in use for the Ruined Castle fire at Katoomba.
It's come awefully close to the lower ends of Scenic World and is predicted to reach Cliff Drive mid afternoon today in these winds.

Photo's are posted with permission of Christopher Indyka, who's done a much better job than me in capturing them.

First is a sequence of 3 images from last Thursday 29 November:

That must be amazing to watch a DC-10 fly that low and aggressively!

Here's a couple more shots from last Thursday. The Hercules 'Thor' also made an appearance.
With the DC10 a lead plane (Rockwell Turbo Commander) flew through first and marks a path for the DC10 to follow through the terrain.
The DC10 is one big plane for fire fighting.

There were announcements at Central on Tuesday afternoon that most of the bus services connecting from Katoomba had been suspended due to the fires

I'm amazed that our rules crazy government regimes allow for an aircraft of that size to operate so low. How does it fill up its belly and where? There's an idea to repurpose the A380s they're starting to retire.
Those Erickson purpose built firefighting choppers can suck up an average suburban backyard pool worth of water in under a minute before heading to dump its load.
Must cost a bomb and the parasite useless usually low IQ young male fire bugs should be made to pay instalments for life to help pay.

I believe the fire retardant material the DC-10 drops is a powder like substance.
It has been based at Richmond RAAF base in the past, so assume that's where it is again and loads up there with the material.
Haven't seen or heard it at the Ruined Castle fire since last Thursdays appearance.
Both Scenic World and the BM Explorer Bus are shown as not operating Thursday or Friday this week.

I'm also sure there's one off 'papal dispensation' for the DC-10 to fly at that height, away from residential areas.
