New Government Architect - railway stations

Post by lunchbox »

NSW's newly appointed Government Architect, Ms. Abbie Galvin, is reported as having a particular interest in railway stations. It is not clear whether that interest extends to the internal design of stations, or whether it is primarily concerned with the precints surrounding the stations (SMH – 1.10.19).

Either way, there are plenty of station projects coming up, including all the stations on the 3 new Metros which are currently in the design stage. Interchange stations such as Bankstown, Parramatta, North Strathfield / Concord West and Mount Druitt might be deserving of particlar attention; even more so the CBD terminus of Metro West. It is most unfortunate that interchage stations on Sydney's South-West Metro have been built without travel-time-saving features such as cross-platform interchange.

The Hills Shire Council called tenders on 1.10.19 for Traffic and Transport studies for three station precincts - Castle Hill, Showground, and Norwest Business Park, the latter incorporating both Norwest and Bella Vista stations.
