S.T.A Adelaide Hino Buses.

Postby Denv12 » Mon Feb 25, 2019 7:41 am

The S.T.A Adelaide sold off a lot of buses from about 1980 onwards. They were former private buses that did the suburban bus routes into the city. Bus companies like Bridgelands,Ex Servicemans,Slatterys,Campbells,Worthle'sy,Coles,Morphetts,Bowmans,Briscoes to name a few.
Some of those bus companies had a variety of Hino buses bodied by Freighter Lawton and PMC Adelaide. Which companies had fleets of Hino's? Who had the biggest fleets? I have added photo of ex STA Adelaide Hino buses after they were sold off by the STA. These were then repainted and sold.
Thanks for helping.

The 2nd Photo seems to be a Bedford and not a Hino, by looking at the front Hubs.
I could be wrong, But the Hino's had different 8) hubs
All tickets and Passes please

And is that an AEC Swift visible in the first pic? Where was it taken exactly?

Glad to help you with that. Photo was taken around 1984 in Bedford Street,Gillman. It used to be the "Fleet Express" depot prior to my parents buying it. These were many of the ex STA Adelaide buses they bought. It was just after Evens Street. The Wool Stores were on the opposite side of the road.It looks a lot different now.

Thanks system improver. Thats great history you've got there. The Hino's must have been the popular choice of chassis back then for street buses.I had driven most of these buses at the time. They were all nice to drive.
I added a photo of RVB 721 ex Briscoes. I delivered this bus as per photo to Port Lincoln in 1984. It turned up at Associated Tourist Services in nearby Queenstown in the new year of 1985. I drove it on charter there and several of the Bedfords ex STA too.

The terribly bland STA silver livery is shown to at its worst on this selection of ex private route buses.Compare that to the presentation and liveries of those private operators.

Thank you for your reply burrumbus.
Each of those original bus companies had decent liveries for the buses. Other cities had better liveries as government buses. Perth's MTT with their green and cream livery was the nicest.
