I’ve noticed the 362 has seemed to be very popular on the days it has operated over the Christmas/New Year period. On a number of occasions the bus has left with standees and at least once left behind a significant number of passengers. Surely it would be worth operating the service everyday between Christmas and New Year?

On another note here’s to a good 2019! Are we only doing one obs thread for the year this year? We have gone from monthly to yearly! Hopefully the forums see an uptick in traffic and posts in 2019

Does X81 still operate in the summer holidays, or is it scrapped already?

Just the destination is useless if you don't know the whole route of the bus. The 379 goes from Bondi to Bronte, but does go via BJI.

Minor correction, the 379 runs from North Bondi to Bronte via Bondi Junction. It doesn't really serve the Campbell Parade section of Bondi Beach as that portion is served by the overlapping 333/333N/380 route via Bondi Road.
Living at the north end of the T6 Line, 513 and the confluence of 513, 546, 549, 550, 553, 625 & 630.
Also living a mile from the Oakes Road interchange.

I realise that, I was just making a random example of how a destination alone does not necessarily give an indication of the actual route of a service.

It got replaced with the high frequency 333, some services do run between BJI and north Bondi

Although apart from a reference in the 2017 Master Plan that they want to move the stop closer to the light rail stop, there doesn't seem to be a public plan as to what they are doing.

Considering I've had that swing open and backwards slightly (ie. towards the rear-facing seat) - while I was sitting in said rear facing seat - yes I'd deem it dangerous in more ways than one.

FAILURES....
I think Merc. MO4399 is ex Ken Butt and I don't know who owns it now, but it failed on the westbound Druitt Street ramp Friday 11.1.19 at 1906 on an M52. After a false start the driver managed to get it going again, apparently by engaging 2nd gear, which it stayed in, presumably all the way to Parramatta. It still has "3532" boldly displayed internally on the header above the windscreen!

Saw M's 1696 at Macquarie Centre on Friday afternoon around 14:57 operating a Citybound 292 service, but instead of the usual desto showing "CITY ERSKINE ST 292" this desto showed "CITY WYNYARD 292" instead.
Isn't this display reserved for inbound 288/290/292 services which terminate early at Lang Park on York Street (being a few blocks north of Wynyard Park) while the usual terminus at Erskine Street is closed for events such as NYE or events around Barangaroo?
I suspect this instance was a result of a driver entering a slightly different destination for their display - I have witnessed a couple of instances of the same issue on the inbound 288s, as well as seeing instances of a somewhat incorrect "MACQUARIE CTR 545'" desto on a number of occasions - the reality is that route 545 does not terminate at the Centre itself, but at Jarvis Circuit, adjacent to Lachlan's Line which is 2km away near the eastern end of Waterloo Road.

Had no idea Port Botany runs some trips on the 370 (I always thought it was exclusively Randwick), as this new CB80 Series 2 Scania 2897 was running on the route

P-Depot have been operating the sole 370 trip from Green Sq for a number of years and have assisted with additional tips on Australia Day and NYE. Since the Sept 30 timetable and scheduling changes, P operate more 370 services these days.

Isn’t the sole 370 trip from Green Square operate only during uni semester. I’ve seen W buses on 370 recently including everyone’s favourite the VSTM :lol:

3462 was carried away on a low loader yesterday destined to become scrap metal, it was missing bits and pieces.

3469 was towed away from Ryde on Friday for removal of gas tanks prior to scrapping.

Scored this the other day. Way quieter than a Bustech but can see what people mean with the climb to the back. Simple solution, less able bodied stick to the front half and leave the back to the more young crowd.

Noticed at Westfeld Eastgardens today how inadequate the lower level single bus stop is for all the services it hosts. People packed in like a composite classroom at 2pm in this skinny single waiting area while a barely used adjacent ambulance and police parking bay lay idle, which should be used as additional bus pick ups instead.
The upper level on Bunnerong Rd is no exemplar either, with it's poorly thought curved kerb making parallel drop offs impossible, often necessitating front door disembarking.

I spotted one of Randwicks Iveco’s on route 311, quite an unusual occurrence. Have not been on one of these for a while, actually saddens me to say I find the older style seats in these heaps more comfortable than the “ergonomically designed” ones in newer Optimuses (which punish you if you don’t fit the proportions)

Everything about the bus situation at Eastgardens is substandard. The layover facilities, the stop designs and locations and the ramp which restricts bendies from downstairs. The interchange was not designed for the number of passengers it currently services. Terrace Tower Group and Scentre Group (Owners and Managers) need to find a suitable solution and fast.

I’ve lived in Perth, Darwin, Melbourne and Sydney.

One thing that has struck me, is that in Sydney at Railway square, they don’t have a fancy multi-million dollar bus interchange.

When I first started negotiating the buses there I wondered if there was some plan in place to upgrade it.

But it just seems to work, in fact if they tried to implement something like the Busport setup in Perth, or Palmerston/Casuarina at Railway square, it would likely be a disaster.

I have no doubt a good designed interchange is indisputable, but is it possibly the case that simple is best.,

Railway Square was designed over 100 years ago to handle large volumes of trams. It managed to keep groups of lines separated, but still allow easy interchange between them. Buses have merely followed the same patterns.

Its main failing, still, is the lack of convenient access to Central Station.
