I went to Kiama two weeks ago. There were people standing and crowded on the train all the way from Town Hall to Unanderra. 4 car train. Pathetic.

It was a very bumpy ride sitting on the longitudinal seating.

They were doing that shtick of pretending that the train was going non-stop to Helensburgh. This makes limited sense for PM peak weekday services, to discourage Sutherland and Waterfall patrons from clogging up Wollongong trains to save a few minutes [ but are they going to be fooled, anyway ?]. It makes no sense on weekend services.

The guard seemed to be very confused, he contradicted the recorded announcements , and himself , half a dozen times.
Welcome to the Far South Coast (so named for the journey time, not the distance). Hint: do you own a car?

It doesn't save much time at all, those trains still pick up at several stations between Central and H'burgh. People in the know still catch them to Wolli Creek or Hurstville. I'm guessing the U restrictions are never policed.

A novel track work configuration this weekend with only the locals operating and T9 running all stations in the inner west. For once the inner west doesn’t get shafted.

T9 stopping at all stops except Croydon  Doesn't 100% replace the trains ex-Homebush in terms of a stopping pattern.

T1 stopping at Homebush, Strathfield, Burwood, Croydon, Ashfield, Newtown, Redfern.

T2 ex-Leppington is terminating on Strathfield platform 1 though...

I really don't understand why they put up posters at stations saying the Southern Highlands timetable is changing, telling people to look at a website which says there are no changes to that line! Took this picture on Friday

Noted on weekends the T5 now sits idle at Parramatta for at least 4 mins before going to Schofields

T6 does not have a closing date in the Transport Info timetable and no route 535 timetable yet.

Strange the https://transportnsw.info/documents/tim ... 200105.pdf I looked at still shows the Carlingford line as do the timetables for other lines. Slight difference in the link 93-T5 instead of former 93-t5 which no longer seems to work.

Saw a V set today (Comeng inter-city set with the cam noise) departing Woy Woy city bound and was wondering what those rubber enclosures between the cars are called. I have noticed them since childhood but never found out if there is a term for them. The T sets were the first urban sets in Sydney to receive a form of them.

The V set ones with their ribbed rubber and metal plated ends are more fancy than older ones that were just made of three rigid rubber tubes.
The wide Tangara gangways were quite an eye opener in their time with their double glass doors. You could barely tell you were walking from one to the next and now with open gangways like the Alstom trains on the metro, they have come further in that respect.

Those full width gangways have been around in Japan for years. Guess we are just catching up.

I have been advised by Transport for NSW that it is hoped to have the Carlingford line removed from the maps by Friday.

And concerning the new maps for the Intercity timetables, which overlay the heading and footer in all timetables except the one for Hunter line, should be fixed tomorrow.

A lot of new-look way finding signage has appeared around Central in the last few days.

Southern Highlands line services suspended due to spot fires around the rail corridor caused by embers from the Green Wattle Creek fire

There are two sets running on the line tonight between Goulburn and Moss Vale (which was also the case this morning), but all services north of there have been replaced by buses all day. It's good to see the rail service being maintained on that section whilst the rest of the line is suspended.

Tomorrow's services have already been cancelled, even though freight trains are getting through at the moment. Weather conditions are not looking good for tomorrow though.

Buses will continue to replace trains for the remainder of today and all day Saturday between Campbelltown & Moss Vale. Road closures also continue to restrict access to Tahmoor, Bargo and Yerrinbool at this stage.

Noticed coming out of the stabling yard at Moss Vale just before 10:30am this morning was an unusual mixed Xplorer/Endeavour consist, with XPL 2501/2508 leading two Endeavour sets. According to reports elsewhere it ran empty north to Eveleigh for maintenance.

I checked dozens of maps on Sunday and found only one, at North Ryde station, from which the Carlingford line has been expunged.

Well, they shouldn’t be “expunged” until week commencing January 5.
