Recently, in Woy Woy, I spotted an immaculately presented HZ one tonner with a small pantech attached and the only clue that it was an HZ was small Radial Tuned Suspension badge on the front guard panel.

I hate to be a spoilsport but the 1 tonner in the picture is a HQ.

Found this Royal VC Commodore on Ebay, one of 300 built for the 1981 Royal visit.

Came across this mildly pimped 1970s XC Falcon 500 in Umina. The owner most likely wasn't born yet when it was built. Lucky find for whoever he (or she?) is. It's in immaculate original condition inside and out, except for the wheels.

They look like FG MK II XR6 wheels to me, but they do look a little out of place, they should of hunted down some original spec period alloys, but anyway.

I saw a ZL Fairlane Sportsman edition, the other day, possibly built in 1987,unmarked silver duco, some sort of plastic cladding on the lower doors giving it a two tone appearance,snowflake alloys as used on the EA S pack, plush grey velour seats with lambswool covers everywhere and a rear louvre. Don't see many ZL's around now.

Would probably go up in value now since Ford have now ceased local production, would of been built at the Brisbane factory, as it built Fairlanes until the NA came out, then at which time Fairlane and LTD production went back to Broadmeadows, leaving only truck production (Louisville and F Series) in Brisbane.

Your post reminded me of one I noticed parked a couple of streets away the other day, so I went up and took these pics today. I had been meaning to add this as well.
I wanted to ask the owner about it as upon closer inspection it is in excellent straight original condition inside and out and looks to have been well cared for. After knocking on a couple of doors, neither knew whos it was, so I just took the pictures. One o them said it hadn't moved in quite a few days.
The interior was excellent, the only sign of wear was the vinyl centre console cover ripped on the edges -as you would expect. Even the steering wheel looked in perfect condition, as did the ignition key slot.
Sorry about the poor shot of the interior, it's the best I could do through the glass. I mainly wanted to show the well appointed period radio unit. Another interesting detail is the LTD style louvres in the rear quarter glass. Fairlanes weren't specified with that were they?

The late build ZL's apparently had the louvres in the quarter windows.

The sound system, reeks of the 1980's. Some of them also had the premium sound system with the tuner,cassette unit and the graphic equaliser as three distinct units in the dash, apparently the premium sound system was demoted to the option list after Keating luxury car tax came in.

On the subject of sound systems, saw a VK Commodore with the Micro Command AM/FM tuner, no cassette, the one with the red display. Holden apparently axed the Micro Command unit in the base level Commodores in 1985 due to lots of bugs with the then fairly new technology and people wanting a tape deck.

They really went all out to make it look technological inside with those banks of buttons either side of the dash. As a result, it still looks striking today. The electronic led dash itself is something to behold - even today.

Ford must have decided to wind up the techy looks with later models as the dash layouts gradually became more conventional to the point where the NL saw a return to full analogue instrumentation in 1995- the first since the ZK.
Those banks of buttons were inspired by the Mazda 929. Ford had a major shareholding in Mazda at the time they developed the ZL/XF.

Offers considered over $100,000, it would of not even cost $10,000 when new.

According to an inflation calculator on a basket of goods, $10,000 Australian in 1972 is about $98,000 today.
Still wouldn't want to use it as a daily driver!

A year-old post, but it's definitely not an HQ, as the post above your one said, note the Radial Tuned Suspension badge on the guard - the HZ and WB were the only big Holdens to have the suspension tweaked to make them handle less like a boat and to work better with radial ply tyres instead of the old cross-plies (likewise the XC Falcons with the blue oval in the grille instead of the individual FORD letters on the bonnet also had their suspension done in response to Holden). Commodores had Radial Tuned Suspension from the start, with VBs carrying the same RTS badges as the HZ (Toranas got RTS first I believe, it was either the LH or LX). All tonners had "HQ" style fronts until the WB, but HJ-HZ had the orange indicators between the lights instead of in the bumper, and a new cheap-and-nasty style bumper to go with it, as the photo shows (the utes and vans had normal HJ/HX/HZ fronts however). Inside, HJs have a long rectangular speedo which looks like it came straight out of a Cadillac (guess who gave us the all-coil suspension on the HQs that weren't utes/vans), HXs gained a better steering system and a new dash cluster, HZs had basically the same dash but with the RTS badge. IIRC all one tonners and panel vans were also Belmonts (or simply "no-name" Holdens) from the factory rather than Kingswoods (utes could be "upgraded" to Kingswood spec however).

The later HQ's in all body types actually had orange front indicators, due to ADR changes.

The RTS badge was used on the dash right up until the end of the VS in 2000 (VS continued in ute form up until 2000, Statesman in 1999 and Commodore sedans and Wagons until 1997), the only exceptions were the VP to VS models that had ABS or IRS or both, and the Lexcens. The VS was one of the longest running individual models, albeit running alongside VT and WH, and the only Holden large car to go to a Series 3. I started high school when the first VS models were going down the line, and finishing when the last one came down the line.

I came across this 1980s Landcruiser 4wd today in Maroubra.

No bullbar, I wonder if it has ever been off road. Judging by the front it would be an 1987 to 1990 model 60 series.

Speaking of Toyota, well in brand only, saw a 1990 VN Lexcen today in white, in the Berlina equivalent spec (Toyota badged it GL) and also a 1989 Magna wagon with an Australian Made sticker on it put on at the factory as they all had originally, not many TP Magnas around still active these days.
