As I'm not familiar with the retired side of things down in Tassie, was wondering which buses have been preserved and are getting well looked after in Tasmania?

Two ex-ACTION Renault buses departed the ACT last Friday for TAS (one PR180.2 [ex-BUS.986] and one PR100.2 [ex-BUS.897]. I expect they've gone to Wisby's like a few other Renault PR180.2's from ACTION. Keep an eye out down there for them!

Indeed you are correct, both 897 and 986 were driven down here to Wisby's and arrived last weekend now making our fleet of Renaults up to 6 buses (5 artics and 1 ridgid). The King of Buses wrote:Two ex-ACTION Renault buses departed the ACT last Friday for TAS (one PR180.2 [ex-BUS.986] and one PR100.2 [ex-BUS.897]. Glad to hear they both made the trip fine - especially 986 which hasn't done too many km's in the past two years! Would love to see some photos of them in action over there (please pardon the Canberra bus pun) once they're running!wisbydriverB40 wrote:Indeed you are correct, both 897 and 986 were driven down here to Wisby's and arrived last weekend now making our fleet of Renaults up to 6 buses (5 artics and 1 ridgid). The King of Buses wrote:Two ex-ACTION Renault buses departed the ACT last Friday for TAS (one PR180.2 [ex-BUS.986] and one PR100.2 [ex-BUS.897]. Happy to provide Wisbys with any photos of them from their ACTION era too should they be wanted for whatever reason.

Thanks for that King of Buses, I will try to get a pic with ex 701, 710, 984, 986, 987 and 897 once they are all registered and inspected.
I must admit however after driving 897 from Canberra to Hobart those 100.2's go amazingly well for an older bus. Its any wonder ACTION had a lot of happy drivers in the day

Many ACTION drivers still favour the Renault PR100.2s that ply the roads here! They definitely miss the PR180.2s as well (even over the Scania K360UA/CB80 artics).
Interestingly, a number of Renault PR100.2s received new/reconditioned engines late in their life too - 897 may be one of those...

Re: Tasmanian Bus Observations - JUL > DEC 2016
I completely understand about prefering the renault to the cb80/60. Having driven both I totally prefer the 180.2 and the 100.2 over the new 'rattlers' .
I find the Renault to be a much better build, considering their age they really were ahead of their time, they feel alot more balanced and stable (especially for an airbag bus) and they go like a rocket too :p
Once they plated I will endevour to get a pic, will keep you posted in the meantime I know that tasbusnut has got some fantastic shots of 701 and 987.

ABC News wrote:A serving Queensland Police Service officer was the victim of a fatal bus and pedestrian crash in Hobart's CBD.
The 46-year-old woman was crossing Campbell Street towards the Grand Chancellor Hotel about 6:00pm Friday when she was struck by a Metro bus making a right-hand turn from Macquarie Street.
She died at the scene.
The 60-year-old driver from Cygnet, south of Hobart, was uninjured.
There were no passengers on the bus.
Inspector John Ward said the woman was staying at the Grand Chancellor Hotel.
"As she crossed the intersection she was hit by a Metro bus and subsequently died of the injuries she sustained," he said.
"My understanding is the person was crossing the road lawfully."
"[The] bus driver and Metro Tasmania have been assisting police with this matter without any hesitation whatsoever.
He said there was no suggestion drugs or alcohol were involved in the matter.
Inspector Ward said he understood the woman had been crossing the road lawfully.
"Most of the intersections in Tasmania operate in such a way that the green light and the flashing green man operate together, so there would be the expectation that the driver would give way and scan ahead but as I say previously the matter is under investigation," he said.
"Tasmania Police contacted the Queensland police service and provided the details.
"The Commissioner in Queensland is aware and has advised his members and we have spoken to the deceased person's father."
Emergency services closed the intersection for several hours.
Police called for witnesses to come forward.

Re: Tasmanian Bus Observations - JUL > DEC 2016
The Tasmanian Bus & Coach Society are happy to announce, they've taken delivery of what was (@ 1.7.16) the OLDEST bus still in Government service (1985 Volvo B10ML / PMC Adelaide Mk.i) for preservation. The Society wish to thank Metro TAS for their generous donation, and their commitment to assisting in preserving public transport history for future generations. The bus was finally retired from service on July 1st 2016, after 31yrs, 2mths and 3days serving Hobart's streets. Covering over 2 million kms in that time, BUS #706 will now join other historic buses currently preserved by the Society, and over time will be thoroughly cleaned and "spruced" up for display at various events attended by the Society annually.
In other news, Morse's Coaches (Devonport) have sold the last of their buses/runs to Merseylink (Devonport). Morse's have been operating for well over 40yrs and at one stage operated the Devonport town services. With the approval of Bruce Tilley, I'll post some shots of Morse's buses over the years in the Photo section in coming days.
O'Driscoll Coaches now have their latest additions on the road as #27 & #28. Both buses are ex Latrobe Valley BL and are M.A.N. 15.22 / CB30s. These 45 seat low-floor buses will be back-up service buses, but also used on school runs and charter. Likewise, photos of these new additions will adorn the Photo section in due course.

I'm sure the TBCS will take very good care after such a vehicle, still outstanding that it lasted that long in service! Certainly shows how they were built back in those daysTas Bus Nut wrote:The Tasmanian Bus & Coach Society are happy to announce, they've taken delivery of what was (@ 1.7.16) the OLDEST bus still in Government service (1985 Volvo B10ML / PMC Adelaide Mk.i) for preservation. Re: Tasmanian Bus Observations - JUL > DEC 2016
If we didn't have a stupid rule that says buses cannot be in public service for more than 25 years, our SL200s, O305s, Sg280Hs and probably B58/B10Ms would still be in service as well. Our SL202s wouldn't be in their last year(s), and we would have no CB80s, CB60s or Scania crap on the O-Bahn. Imagine that...Hawkeye wrote:I'm sure the TBCS will take very good care after such a vehicle, still outstanding that it lasted that long in service! Wisby's have also taken delivery of a 2007 Mills Tui Orbit body Hino RG260 from Queensland (ex Christensens Bus and Coach however I cannot find it on the fleetlist but it did have their accreditation number on the rear) now has Tasmania reg F94FD. At this stage it is to be used for charter and camp work exclusivily.
