I wonder if they will renumber the Perth to Mirrabooka Limited Stops bus?

PTA will be expanding to Karrakatha from the 1st of January 2017

https://www.tenders.wa.gov.au/watenders ... pen-tender

The Public Transport Authority (PTA) seeks the services of an appropriately experienced and qualified service provider to provide regular passenger services.
The current contract for Karratha Regional Town Bus Services is due to expire on 31 December 2016. The new contract will commence on 1 January 2017.
The Request for Tender (RFT) documents contain detailed specifications on the service levels required to provide the Services from the Commencement Date. Tenderers are not required to demonstrate how they would implement changes to the Services at contract commencement. However, the Contractor is expected to proactively and continuously review services to maximise the cost effectiveness of service delivery and to improve patronage during the contract term. All service changes should be well planned and considered and comply with Regional Town Bus Services planning principles.
Tenders will be assessed on a value for money basis inclusive of cost impacts to the PTA as a consequence of the recommended outcome.
The RFT incorporates the Proposed Karratha Regional Town Bus Services Contract (Book 3) which contains the essential service requirements that Tenderers must consider when preparing and submitting their Tender response. If there is any inconsistency between the Tender document and the Proposed Regional Town Bus Services Contract, the Service Contract shall prevail.
The scope of services includes the following activities:
I. Provision of Bus Services in the Karratha Service Area;
II. Maintenance of buses as supplied by the Authority; and
III. Maintaining the Approved Depot.

Up for consultation for the next month (under the "Bunbury consultation")
  • 825 is a new shuttle to the Dolphin Discovery Centre, replacing the rerouted 827.
  • Express bus station - train station trips now numbered 826.
  • 827 no longer serves Koombana Dr (diverted via current 845 route - Hayes/Herbert/Austral).
  • 828 and 829 unchanged.
  • 830 rerouted from Spencer/Plaza/Stockley/Jarvis to the coast to compensate for removal of 831, alignment tweaked in Carey Park, selected trips extended to College Grove.
  • 831 axed! Due to low patronage there's no compensation for Dalyellup which has its Mon-Sat daytime service halved.
  • Already a milk run, 832 has been diverted via Stockley/Plaza to compensate for the realignment of the 830, also has had some half-hearted route straightening.
  • 841 and 843 unchanged.
  • 844 straightened a little in East Bunbury, extended to the existing 845 terminus.
  • 845 takes significantly more direct routes from the bus station to Bunbury Forum (the Hayes/Herbert/Austral milk run is now served by the 827) and from Bunbury forum to Eaton Fair, now deviates into Millbridge. In the longer term, will extend over the Collie River via Treendale to Kingston. (2017 perhaps?)
From a brief look at the TTs, there aren't any huge changes to frequency etc. A few extra trips have been added around the beginning and end of service on some routes to provide better commuting opportunities. The 845 has been reduce to two-hourly on Saturdays and the 844 rightly takes over the Sunday service given the proposed reduction in the 845's coverage.

My thought's (if anybody's interested)...
Some steps in the right direction but IMO they've missed a golden opportunity for an overhaul. The route changes in Eaton are particularly pleasing: the Eaton services are now clearly designed to pick up as many people around Eaton/Millbridge as possible and then move them rapidly to Bunbury Forum or the CBD whilst the task of providing ASL (500m to a bus stop) / community service obligation service in East Bunbury is handed to the ASL/CSO-aligned 827.

Yet, particularly south of the CBD, the planners continue to be stuck in a "regional-town" frame of mind despite Bunbury being a city of almost 70,000. The network is still far to coverage-oriented resulting in the erosion of useful, direct services and the proliferation of meandering, inefficient routes that may not be far to walk to but take so long to get anywhere that they're useless to anybody who values their time - in Perth places like Westwood St/Davenport Wy/Hooper Pl/Sweeting Wy etc would be doomed to hard to service (for good reason) yet in Bunbury it seems necessary to waste government money and passengers' time sending the routes through these areas. Saturday service is poor and Sunday service is laughable, there are still no buses on three public holidays in the year, this would be unacceptable in Perth. This is despite both the Perth and Bunbury networks AFAIK being drawn up by the same people.

They really should have taken a clean map of Bunbury, labelled it "Perth" and tried drawing up an entirely new, big-city standard network from scratch.

If anybody still lurks around on the forum...thoughts?

I think this is supposed to be that "golden opportunity", with the new operator taking the opportunity to review and overhaul services as necessary to better align with demand, rightly so.

What instantly springs to my mind is that the passenger-base for these services is significantly different to Perth. While there is 70,000 people in the Greater Bunbury area, this is majority low density built form over a significant land mass and includes a significant proportion of rural area too. The different estates being located so far from each other (e.g. Eaton, Dalyellup etc) makes it very difficult to serve efficiently by public transport, especially when they are designed with car-dependency primarily in mind. As a result of this, pretty much 98% of the passenger base is comprised of concession users (e.g. students, seniors, unemployed, pretty much anyone that can't drive). This is not going to change anytime in the near future until the decisions on land use better supports public transport provision. As a result, the primary passenger base is quite likely to be vocal about these service changes and I can guarantee that they are probably going to end up being watered down further before being implemented. While we'd all agree that change is necessary for the better, it needs to be gradual to ensure it doesn't backfire or become politically contentious.

I think the service levels at present can be supported, until such a time that there is viability (in terms of population and density increase) to further enhance and improve on the structure of routes. The routes would carry fresh air on weekends as it is, so operating on public holidays can hardly be justified as it is.

I can't see the network being revolutionised for at least another decade or more. The only glimmer of hope is that if the planning outcomes of the new city Wanju to be situated to the south east of Eaton and Milbridge do become a reality, then there will be a city of 50,000 people within 1245 ha of land. Size comparable to the suburb of Eaton (with only 8,000 people). This will definitely bring about a better public transport network in the region, particularly between Wanju and Bunbury, but also benefiting surrounding areas too.

The Bunbury network review has been finalised with the changes to take place from 16 October 2016. Timetables and network maps available from the TransRegional website.

Most of what was proposed during consultation is going ahead. In addition, trial route 842 will be introduced to provide direct access (twice a day) between the growing Dalyellup area and the Hospital, TAFE and The Parks shopping centre.

In other news, the PTA Annual Report 2015-16 indicates that the TransRegional bus fleet should be fully accessible by 2017. Only a handful of high floor buses remain in Busselton (possibly Albany too???).

New bus services to benefit Goldfields residents

Trial bus services for Kambalda and Coolgardie a success
Goldfields residents to benefit from regular service to and from Kalgoorlie

Goldfields residents will enjoy a permanent bus service between Kalgoorlie and the towns of Kambalda and Coolgardie following a successful year-long trial.

Transport Minister Bill Marmion said the two initial temporary TransGoldfields bus routes servicing Coolgardie and Kambalda would be made permanent, continuing the Liberal National Government's commitment to improving transport services in regional areas.

Fact File

Route 865 runs two return services on Thursdays between Coolgardie and Kalgoorlie, and Route 866 operates two return services on Saturdays between Kambalda West, Kambalda East and Kalgoorlie
Timetables for the services are available here and at local community and visitor centres

http://www.pta.wa.gov.au/news/media-sta ... -residents

"The trial routes were introduced in November 2015 in response to community feedback. The trial proved very successful and we are really pleased with the level of patronage these services have maintained over the past year," Mr Marmion said.

"Making the services permanent is about making people's lives easier and safer - the new bus routes will be of great benefit to the residents of Kambalda, Coolgardie and Kalgoorlie.

"The services will be subject to a yearly review to ensure the community and the taxpayer are getting the best value for money for this investment.

"Continuation of these services will depend on ongoing patronage, so I urge all Kambalda, Coolgardie and Kalgoorlie passengers to use this excellent service and ensure it remains for the long term."

The initial $50,000 six-month trial was funded in part by a $20,000 contribution from Gold Fields Pty Ltd, and was extended by the Public Transport Authority for a further six months so full-year patronage could be assessed.

So Love's will be axed from the PTA running? Will there be any service changes/fleet changes mentioned coming along with this?
I'd post any important, bus-related links I had, but they're outdated anyways.

Some latest TransRegional news.

Three month trial of two additional weekday trips on TransBusselton Route 815 which commenced 26 September 2017. These seem to be targeted for the commuter peak to/from Busselton (if you can call it that) and thus the trip times may be better suited to non-student travel.

Time changes on most TransBunbury routes effective 8 October 2017.
