Samsung making a Smartphone called the galaxy round which is the worlds first curved phone. Since that happened there are also rumors of LG making the same to rival off Samsung and its phone competition.

Well there's no other way to compete if you don't follow suit.
Re: The telecommunications discussion thread
Assuming this thread is for fibre optic too, I saw a show on Megacities where they put the fibre in sewers in Paris and the most interesting bit was where an American designed a very small robot that could travel 1km per day up a small sewer pipe drilling, sealing and attaching the fibre cable to the top of the pipe.

Re: The telecommunications discussion thread
I was downloading a song off a website where before the download started, I was redirected to a page called Armor for Android. It said that I have download it because I did insecure banking, visiting pornographic websites & creating corrupt office documents which all 3, I haven't done before lol. Has anyone encountered this? Although, without downloading music.

That website was probably trying to trick you into downloading some 'goodies'. Normal if you're downloading things off websites with that sort of content on it. You just need to be careful.

Re: The telecommunications discussion thread
I was smart enough to not download it. Did a search & other people say when they downloaded it, it made their phones laggy & saying it is the virus.

As a general rule of thumb you should only download apps from the Play Store or App Store or Marketplace or whatever, unless you have a specific reason to download one from another source. Reduces instances of malware\dodgy apps\what have you.B10BLE wrote:I was smart enough to not download it. Re: The telecommunications discussion thread
Incidentally my sister had a little problemo with her Android tablet today; while she was playing a chess app on it (which I got off Google Play, mind you) some ads advertising those horrid dating things showed up, including one for "shagger.com". The crap has gone now, but I'm sure it will probably re-emerge soon.
Isn't there a version of AVG Anti-Virus available for Android tablets?

Yes there is, same goes with Avast as well. They're not specific to tablets, instead Android devices in general.crazyturbo76 wrote: Isn't there a version of AVG Anti-Virus available for Android tablets?

Re: The telecommunications discussion thread
Quick question: Is there any way to make more space on an Android available for applications? My Huawei Ascend G510 keeps running out of memory when it has 800 MB OF SPACE LEFT but only 100 MB left for apps. I've had to move most of my apps to my 32 GB SD card. Any solutions would be helpful.
Thanks,
Josh

Re: The telecommunications discussion thread
I had similar issues when I had my HTC Desire, the only real "solution" was to S-off and root it (voiding the warranty in the process), set up a second partition on the SD card and use Link2SD to create a symbolic link for the apps to be installed on the SD card. It worked fine, but there were occasional hiccups.
THere are instructions online on how to do these things but it will void your warranty to do so. These days I wouldn't even think of getting a phone that didn't have internal storage in the double digits.

Re: The telecommunications discussion thread
Are the HTC Desire phones any good? I'm thinking of buying either one of those or a new Huawei 4G phone to replace my crappy Huawei Ascend G510, which unfortunately crapped out and cracked its screen today.

Coming from an ex-HTC owner, they aren't as good as they used to be a couple of years ago.. LG, Sony & Samsung are top manufacturers now.

I wouldn't say so, there are much better alternatives (e.g. HTC One). People buy it because of the brand now, not because of its functionality. Main culprit is amount of bloatware that is installed and cannot be removed (without rooting).B10BLE wrote:Samsung are top manufacturers now.

Re: The telecommunications discussion thread
Well my Desire 610 is quite good-1.2 GHz Snapdragon processor, 8 MP camera, Android 4.4.4 KitKat and best of all, 4G telecommunications.B10BLE wrote:Coming from an ex-HTC owner, they aren't as good as they used to be a couple of years ago.. LG, Sony & Samsung are top manufacturers now.
The main issue with Android phones is how OEMs modify the base Android UI. Samsung, Huawei, HTC and LG all have different UIs for each of their phone lines and hence things can get confusing when using an Android. Of course, the Nexus line uses a non-modified UI.macpro622776 wrote:I wouldn't say so, there are much better alternatives (e.g. HTC One). Correct, but I was just referring to Samsung there. Don't go down the Samsung path.crazyturbo76 wrote: The main issue with Android phones is how OEMs modify the base Android UI. Re: The telecommunications discussion thread
After trying to update the YouTube app, I got a -110 error. Thinking this was normal, I restarted my phone only to realise that some apps, including YouTube, and the Google Play Store also disappeared.
Is there a way to get the play store back?

Might be disabled-check the Applications list in your settings. Otherwise you'll need to reimage the phone.

Google "Google Play apk" and download it from a site that doesn't look too dodgy.
Re: The telecommunications discussion thread
XDA developers forum are pretty good at that. Best to do a factory reset tho.macpro622776 wrote:Google "Google Play apk" and download it from a site that doesn't look too dodgy.

I love my Sony Xperia z ultra, but it is not for everyone. It's huge.

Re: The telecommunications discussion thread
Huge phones seem to be the trend nowadays-no wonder Samsung released a bigger version of the S6 (the S6 Edge) when that came out not long ago, and Apple released the iPhone 6 Plus to primarily compete with the Galaxy Note 4. Even high end phones (like LG's G3) are quite big-my month old Galaxy S5 is small compared to a Note 4, G3 or even an iPhone 6 Plus.
Found out why Android L hasn't come out on Optus-spec S5s yet-Samsung supposedly hasn't sent the new update of the firmware to Optus yet, when the first versions of Android 5 for S5 came out several months ago.

Re: The telecommunications discussion thread
Should have got an unbranded version with a sim only plan. Why not just flash Lollipop on to your phone using Odin? As long as you use a Samsung approved version, no will be warranty voided but region will be changed.crazyturbo76 wrote:Found out why Android L hasn't come out on Optus-spec S5s yet-Samsung supposedly hasn't sent the new update of the firmware to Optus yet, when the first versions of Android 5 for S5 came out several months ago.

This is one of the biggest issues with Android - its fragmentation due to there being so many various manufacturers who typically sell a wide variety of models at the same time.

There is no difference in size between the S5, S6 and S6 edge. The G3 isn't much bigger either.crazyturbo76 wrote:Huge phones seem to be the trend nowadays-no wonder Samsung released a bigger version of the S6 (the S6 Edge) when that came out not long ago, and Apple released the iPhone 6 Plus to primarily compete with the Galaxy Note 4. The only real "big" phones on the Australian market nowadays are the iPhone 6 Plus, the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 and the Huawei M7. And the old Lumia 1320.
