New Type Destination Signs BT Bus 2123

Post by motorman1066 »

Does anyone have any photos/details about the new white on black LED destination signs and numerals on BT bus 2123.
I like them because they are bright and easy to read from a distance. Better, I think than the amber on black.
Are these experimental, are they to become standard and will they be retrofitted to the rest of the remaining fleet?

I've observed 2122 and 2124 have the standard amber on black signs and numerals, so what is the story, please?

Only 5 of the Optimus have been fitted with them. They are to aid the vision impared. (easier to read like you said) Unknown if any others will be rolled out with them.

Thanks Moreton and Bus Control for your replies.
You have proven I wasn't seeing things.

I guess it's up to public opinion as to whether or not they will be used more extensively.

I'm glad others approve, I thought I may have been biased due to my "tram affiliation"

Be nice if they had proper side screens too, like everybody else in the region has had since around 2006.

Just be thankful they're at least LED finally, not the hard-to-read seven segment crap.

The monthly depot news said it was buses commencing build from August, hence the reason we are still seeing orange LED's

They look awesome regardless!! Whoever came up with that idea (Mr Mobitec?) has done well! I saw a new Surfside decker with a white desto and it looks great! (212)

Bus LED destination and route number signs always come with optical sensor, so they are readable from even 50-100mts at noon. And the size of characters can be changed if needed. Compared to amber, the brightness of white led lights is higher. For more info of bus destination signs, please click here.

BT has updated the size of the route numbers and information on the latest round of Desto updates across the fleet in last few weeks.
Sometimes on bright sunny conditions, the white Destos are hard to see during the day, but the white are better at night. Moreton
