A question Zack - Why doesn't the electronic destos display correctly in the photos? What causes parts to be missing?

It's due to different frequencies etc. with the camera. They (in theory) should actually be functioning correctly.

Yep, the destinations on the buses are functioning properly, but LED destinations don't always turn out on cameras, in particular, normally its those cheaper destination units that don't display properly as oppose to say a Mobitec LED or Hanover. You'll find that shots taken in twilight/evening will normally display the full destination in a photo, guess to do with sunlight etc as seen in this shot I posted earlier in another thread.

It appears to me the LED type destos must "refresh" regularly, which means there are periods of "no" display which is not visible to the naked eye owing to the "persistence of vision" which is the phenomenon of the eye by which an afterimage is thought to persist for approximately one twenty-fifth of a second on the retina.

When taking a daylight photo, the camera would be using a shutter speed of 1/100 second or faster, which would catch the "blank" part of the display, however in a lowlight photo with a slower shutter speed, the shutter would be open long enough to capture the display through a complete period.

Desto displays on Perth (Western Australia) buses must be in a constant "on" state, ie no refresh.

Re the last line of that post: That is because LEDs flash at a constant rate, invisible to the human eye, whereas flip dots obviously do not flash.
