I also don't see why it would serve Mount Victoria.

Lithgow non stop to Penrith seems a more reasonable proposition to me.
gilberations wrote:seems to me that by the rough timing of this service, it would meet the Sprigwood to Hornsby Service, thus creating only one change of service for western line
Looks to me like it would pass Springwood after that service.

Under current arrangements, they have to catch a bus and two trains to get to those stations, so nothing will change.

This is a long distance express service to the city. It should not have to cater for every possible minor travel eventuality, for which there are alternatives available

Under current arrangements, people living in poverty in some parts of the world have to wait days to get food.

Stopping at major centres in the Blue Mountains (Katoomba) and Western Sydney (Penrith & Parramatta) is not "catering for every possible minor travel eventuality". It's not as if anybody is proposing stops at say, Lapstone or Toongabbie.

If you're only going to cater for people wanting to ride the service end to end you'll lose a LOT of potential passengers.

Not unprecedented. Both peaks have trains non stop between Parramatta and Redfern.

Strathfield is an overhyped transfer point. It's really just the Northern Line which branches there.
I'm always told by my grandparents that for a long time, "The Fish" used to stop All to Valley Heights, Parramatta, Central. This is of course in the Pre V Set days.
The North Sydney - Springwood Trains go Redfern, Parramatta, Blacktown then ALL STATIONS to Springwood. Only 3 of these run per day to my knowledge.

CityRail wrote:Interesting Question, why this service does not stop at Penrith or Blacktown? I think people would also love to go to Nepean or Blacktown Hospital for medical appointment than Westmead right?
They may like to, but if Westmeads' where the specialists are located, then loving won't make it so. That said, it does seem strange it does not make a stop at Penrith.
CityRail wrote:Hopefully when this service becomes available I will one day go to Westmead and try this service out.
I happened to look at the Springwood Desto Board Run Sheet while waiting there today, (Had I known what absolute insanity was going on here I would've taken a photo...) but I recall it saying "Countrylink Booked Passengers only"... I''ll leave the armchair speculation to you guys with that bombshell

I also noticed the departure time listed as 8.09am... the plot thickens!
CityRail wrote:With the introduction of the Shuttle service, I would suggest it could be a good idea for this shuttle train to start from Central(i) early in the morning and late at night, enabling tourists to catch this service as an express to/from the Mountains for a day.
The idea of the shuttle is for Bathurst people to get to Sydney & back, not to add Endeavours to Blue Mountains Commuter Trains... Adding Another Oscar or 2 to Newcastle Line, thereby freeing up two V Sets would be a better idea.
However some of these expresses you suggest already exist.
From the Cityrail Website:
6.39 & 8.24 from Central are pretty good expresses.
4.13 from Katoomba is a pretty good express home too.
CityRail wrote:If passengers will need to change trains at Springwood for Penrith, I just hope the train they are changing to is NOT the next train departing Lithgow or Katoomba but a Springwood - North Sydney train or there's no point for passengers to catch the Bathurst direct to Springwood than change.
I fail to understand your logic, can you clarify?
As stated in above replies, only 3 Springwood to North Sydney trains exist, with Stopping Pattern above. The Normal Lithgow- Central V Set trains are much better as expresses.

Well that explains the Katoomba stop - it's to meet the 7:49am Katoomba starter, but it doesn't explain Mount Victoria or Springwood.

Not public as far as I know yet. However, things must be looming as there is scheduled trials/crew training with an Endeavour set between Mt Victoria and Bathurst this week.

I'm a Blue Mountains commuter, and unless you actually commute every day you cannot understand how frustrating it is when you have people from certain stops (who have alternate suburban trains to travel on) overcrowding the only services you have. I would feel exactly the same if I was a traveller on this Bathurst-Central service, so people who say it should stop at Penrith and every stop in between (yes, use of exaggeration) I think you should travel 3+ hours a day and see how annoying it is before you make comment.

I've been to Sydney Terminal on numerous occassions, and I have never actually seen anyone left behind because they can't get on. I've never even seen a crush loaded interurban. I've seen numerous crush loaded suburbans though, and even people not being able to get on. The Cityrail statistics do not support the argument that interurban commuters cannot get on either.

The statistics don't show the cancellations and 8 car sets being knocked down to 4 cars, so what makes you think they are 100% true?

That is because there are restrictions. It would be a totally different story if there were not.

So again statistics are NOT the full story.

That may be, but this part is an opinion:

You do not know how many Parramatta bound people would use 17:23 ex-Central(i), for example.

But neither do you. If so provide the necessary statistics. Of course they do not exist. So available statistics do not tell the full story.

I feel that the available statistics, which I referred to in the other thread, infer that there would indeed be no problem with removing the 'u' from Parramatta from the service in question, based on best guess. FWIW.

Perhaps someone with some free time could go out to parramatta for a few days and observe the train and passenger movements   :|

OMG! I live in lithgow, and i can tell you it is always painful getting a train from central at the moment as 9 time out of 10 i have to wait till sometimes springwood, to get a seat, penrith if im lucky. this is due to 8 car trains going to mt vic and 4 car trains going the distance. also, people going to places like blacktown, parramatta and penrith catching the interurban for a quicker ride home. Simonl, get off your imaginary high horse and go to central in peak hour and look at the full interurbans. they are full. the stopping pattern of the Bathurst service, dare i say it, is designed to be used by those traveling the distance. also, it alows for a 3 hour journey time, roughly the longest travel time on a cityrail service. the shuttle service is lithgow bathurst, not central bathurst.
the starting date dare i say it will be with the October 2012 (minor alterations) timetable, with the shuttle maybe starting with the major timetable overhaul next year maybe?

Why would there be 4 car services on weekdays? Or do you mean the weekend service which was reduced to 4 cars to remove the repeaters?
