I have noticed on a couple of barriers at Central, when I use a PET, the green screen comes on, but the amber light of the adjacent barrier lights up

That indicates a concession ticket was inserted.

Also, Seems like Seven Hills, Toongabbie, Pendle Hill, Wenworthville, Harris Park, East Richmond, Mulgrave and Schofields have poles.

Concord West too.

The amber light on the barrier used usually comes on, not the one next to it.

I went through the new barriers at Wharf 5 yesterday and was surprised to see that my MyFerry Travel10 (i.e. Ferry10) was not printed on the back to show the trip details. While it did show the number of trips left on the screen, this is a bit annoying as you can't just look on the back to see if it's valid or not. It also leaves even more opportunities for ticketing fraud with the Travel10's, since you could have a ticket with 9-10 trips checked off via pen on the front, and then 9-10 more trips through a machine that aren't marked.... meaning up to 20 trips for the price of 10!

It's also an issue for passengers who buy weeklies from newsagents that aren't activated until first use: now the only way to get those printed will be on buses... if you just ride trains and ferries the expiry date will never be printed.

I realize it is expensive to support two systems... and not adding the ticket printing function to the new machines probably saves money, but it's still annoying.

Also, who officially operates the barriers, ticketing machines, etc, after the transfer of Sydney Ferries operations to Harbour CIty Ferries? Is it some separate ticketing corporation? Details on this have been a bit vague...

Noticed this evening that the poles have gone in at Summer Hill sometime in the last few days - 5 I could see. 1 at the top of the stairs to the subway near the ticket office, 2 at the base of the stairs to platform 3, and two in the middle of the subway perpendicular to the stairs and lift to platforms 1/2.

Will new deliveries of CB80 bodied buses still have the green machine cut out space near the driver's ticket console?

Update:

There hasn't been any major announcements on Opal but its clear that the installation is in full swing.

Screens have been installed at nearly all ticket gates and poles have been installed at most stations on the Northern, North Shore, Bankstown, Inner West and Western Lines.

For Buses, most private buses are ready for Opal with only STA and some others installing the equipment

Still no word on fares, but it won't be until the IPART report in Nov 2012 that we will know if Opal will be zonal, MyZone or something different

I've also cleaned up my first post with references to anything on Opal
It will be better to be spent to buy 5000 buses to replace the entire Central Coast, Newcastle, Blue Mountains, South Coast and Southern Highlands Services - which will be 90% cheaper - Metroline

I know they've been installed at Werrington and St Marys

There this morning, so presumably installed yesterday. I saw a few "squeezers" having problems getting through. 8)

Opal Poles at Gordon on Nth Shore...after looking on my commute, I don't think many remain without poles on North Shore....

BTW after scouring this thread and inspecting them, what is their purpose?

The first batch of modified barriers at Central have holes drilled in the top covers (along with a couple of dummy bolts to fill them in), presumably for securing the card readers, but I have not noticed this feature on the later conversions or at other stations.

Which set of barriers would these be? I won't be back at Central until late next week, would you (or somebody else) be able to take some photos and post it here for us to see, if possible?

Forest has announced they'll be ending support for their AES Prodata passenger cards as of the 24th of August, which sounds like they'll be installing Opal consoles very shortly indeed -- possibly as early as the beginning of September.

We know how forest's website is not really tablet friendly when they have it set up so some links open up in a window inline on the site.
