[CityRail] Lidcombe Olympic Park Sprint Platform PIDs

Postby boxythingy » Fri Jun 15, 2012 6:36 pm

Replaced sometime in May 2012. Wonder why they didn't opt for x2 dual screen standard suburban platform ones to refill the spot where the x2 former CRT PIDs were.

Great question.

Since the City Circle has ATRIC I wonder why Town Hall didn't get them either when its screens were replaced in May/June.

However I'm told that the City stations don't have the dual screen LICS (which requires ATRICS) indicators due to these being centrally controlled and not being able to be easily altered by station staff in case of cancellations.

Lidcombe also doesn't have ATRICS from my understanding.

No, It doesnt - Nor does Parramatta...

The new screens also lack a clock at the top. I've just noticed that.

Fair enough, although the other platforms at Lidcombe use dual screen PICS.

I've also noticed that the old screens showed: P4 on the left and P3 on the right.

Non dual screen stations can still be under LICS (ie ECRL).

Speaking of this, there is not a single underground platform with dual screen PIDS, except for the Airport Link ones (although they might be different). However they are used in covered stations such as Hurstville.

That's where I think it's most appropriate to use the single screen indicators -- where there is only one single line operating.

All along the Northern line for example (Nth Strathfield - Epping) should be the single screen indicator, whereas in the City it should be all dual screen.

However logic hasn't yet prevailed.

As I mentioned the aim however is flexibility. With the city stations/Strathfield/Parramatta staffed from first till last train and where transpositions occur, it's probably easier that way, at least for the time being?

Another reason why (IMO) they may use the dual screens is, for example the stations on the Northern line, they have a fairly low roof/ceiling height for the platforms, so fitting a single screen in would be extremely obstructive.

You should see those on Platform 1/2 at Wolli Creek. Although I agree with the second sentence.
