Unless the shed has been replaced or changed ??? the shed in the pic is facing the wrong way ?? if its facing inward the shed would be over the outdoor pit. If facing outward (more likely) that would make "the house" the office & the shed in the background still facing the wrong way taking up the back corner & the washbay ??? Thats why I thought the house to the right of the cab of the trailer bus looks a lot like fatcats old house. in the pic below the shed opposite the bus looks too much like J.J. Hills shed on the north side of Glebe st. I'm not saying these buses were J.J. Hills. In those days J.J.H. were also body builders (in the north shed I think) so these buses could have been there having work done or the driver having a meal break ???

In the background of this pic you can see the driveway with the office behind & the sheds facing the yard

Comeng built 4 Foden PVD6 bodies for private operators, 1948-9. Looked similar to DRTT except for front.

I have just conversed with Mr Fatcat & he has confirmed my assumptions the trailer bus & the pic below is outside J.J.Hills old depot at the cnr. of Glebe & Corrimal sts. Not certain of the ownership of the 2 vehicles I don't think J.J.H. had any trailer buses but I only found out recently that Rutty's had trailers as well

Mr Fat Cat is right. The shed in question is the old greasors shed on the site of the office that was there at the end of John J Hills. I believe the trailer bus was owned by John J Hills. Possibly the Prime Mover and the Trailer were bodied in John J Hills own body shop - But i stand corrected on this  I know i have said it before but it is no wonder so many of us fell in love with buses in an era that was packed with such uniqeness and variety in and around Wollongong.

The informant should remember two of John J.Hill trailer bus drivers, Stan Taylor and Jim Hazelton.
I remember both of these drivers telling me about the trailer buses. I do remember that J.J.Hill done
body work for a lot of company's, I also know they made armored cars as well,(but I don' t know who for, sorry).
I have fond memory's of working for John J's through the 80's and 90's, and I made a lot of good friends,
even some who would run over a line of witches hats, and leave someone else to cope the blame on the return journey.
Anyone you know Mr Informant????

Did the JJH depot once span from Corrimal to Beatson St? Is anyone able to provide a basic map of what the depot looked like in plan?

Ah Mr Fat Cat the memory isn't as good as it used to be? Wouldn't know what your talking about Re the Witches Hats     Yes Stan and Jim were stalwarts of Shellharbour Depot for many years- Jim's wife caught the bus up untill my leaving the depot in late 2001 and was always full of good stories about the antics of the old days at Shellharbour. The Informant is proud to say he is the proud owner of a brand new body plate from the John J Hills body given to me by the late John Hill.F Road the depot went from Corrimal st right through to Beatson Street. The house on the Corner of Glebe and Beatson was owned by Hills and the body shop i think originally faced Corrimal Street. As well the workshop was across the road on the Northern side of Glebe Street.
