Lilydale in the rain #2 & #3

Postby Craig » Sat May 26, 2012 9:17 pm

People with good memories may recall a thread I posted in late 2008, Lilydale in the rain.

Here's two sequels to that thread showing some of the changes in the fleet & livery since then. The first set of photos were taken back on a wet afternoon in October last year & others yesterday morning.

Friday 28 October 2011:
Image
Martyrs #51 (Volvo B7RLE, Express)

Image
Invicta #83 (Scania K230UB, Volgren)

Image
After a brief pause in the rain, black clouds cross the line-up of different liveries, chassis & bodies that can typically be found at Lilydale, with Invicta #838 (Scania K230UB, Volgren), Martyrs #49 (Volvo B7RLE, Express) & McKenzies 7350AO (M.A.N. 18.310, King Long)

Image
Invicta #376 (Iveco Metro C260, Volgren) initially purchased for Portsea Passenger

Image
Invicta #754 (Scania K230UB, Volgren)

Friday 25 May 2012:

Image
Invicta #800 (Dennis Dart, Volgren) which now is only used for driver-changeover duties. One of the 2 buses in service that missed getting Grenda corporate livery, its wears a modified 2000s livery for the introduction of the Lysterfield loop service, as well Invicta's Canola Bio-diesel trial (which was abandoned due to cost & supply issues).

Image
Interesting bodywork of Invicta #721 (Dennis Dart SLF, Geelong Coachworks)

Image
McKenzies 2697AO (Mercedes Benz OH1725, Express) on the 684 service from Eildon

Image
Invicta #846 (Vovlo B7RLE, Volgren)

Image
Martyrs #23 (Volvo B7R, Volgren)

Image
Invicta #740 (Dennis Dart SLF, Volgren) on the 673 Lillydale Lake service. Although this route often transports Area 1 passengers to/from the other end of Main Street, its extremely rare for it to carry anyone to the lake (which is also served by Routes 663 & 680)

Image
The driver of Invicta #785 (Scania L94UB, Volgren) shows some Aussie pride.

Image
McKenzies 7350AO (M.A.N. 18.310, King Long) on one of the few 685 services that continue to Chirnside Park.

Image
Invicta #732 (Scania L94UA, Volgren). These buses have only recently become a regular sight on Route 670 along Maroondah Hwy since timetable changes at the end of 2011.

Image
Invicta #753 (Scania L94UB, Volgren)

Image
Martyrs #35 (Volvo B7R, Volgren)

Image
Invicta #750 (Scania K230UB, Volgren)

Kind Regards

Craig :)

Great shots Craig, I especially like the 3rd photo.

One slight correction: Martyrs #51 is an Express, not a Volgren.

Glad you enjoyed them. :)

Thanks for the correction too, always seem to slip up with large threads.

Kind Regards

Yes, a very interesting selection of photos. Gets the thumbs up from me too!

I particularly like the Martyr's livery on #51 in the top photo. Its is a very attractive livery - one of the best looking in Victoria I reckon.

Nice work Craig.

Also of interest is the 673 destinations that read 'LILLYDALE LAKE' (double L) which someone has had the foresight to program correctly. All signage that I have seen for the lake has the double L spelling, goes back to the original way of spelling Lilydale or similar.

"Lillydale" was the original spelling, and was retained for the shire council covering that area until it was amalgamated into the Shire of Yarra Ranges in 1994.
In your guts, you know he's nuts.
