That's certainly unique for that both the destination and platform numbers are attached and mounted on a pole. Actually, it is quite strange and unique as they already have those signs under the shelter on the wall  :

Interesting: Arrows directing one to the left to Platform 1 and right to Platform 2

The CityRail standards state that only directional signage may have the blue border.

Other signage need not have the blue border.

So I was right? :)

Those Hexham signs are not to standard. The standard signs for train line identification on platforms do not have a blue border.

The red was from the early cityrail - everything was red back then, seats, light poles etc

Probably because there isn't a 3rd proceeding train? (or at least within the maximum timeframe)

This sign is correct. It is quite obviously directing people to buses on Platform A, which includes Stands A1-A4.

The sign is clearly directing people out of the station, not towards the platforms.

If you are so picky, why didn't you include a picture of the adjacent sign which directs to Platform B?

I thought an array of bus stops was always known as "Stands" and therefore perhaps a more intuitive sign for Sydneysiders would be Stands A1-A4 rather than Platform A?? (I certainly don't see Platform A or B for Bondi Jn, for example). Platforms from what I understand (and used to) are for railways (including light railways).

I didn't get time to take a pic for Platform B. Would've missed my bus in that case.

Bus Platforms sounds silly. The place where you wait for a bus is infact a Stand. That sign would be correct by saying Bus Stands (A) or Bus Stand (A1)-(A4)

We have bus platforms in Perth but on each platform we have stands - have a look at the wiki page for the Esplanade Busport to see.

That sounds logically. However looking at the official maps on 131500.com.au, http://www.131500.com.au/maps/upload/do ... ta_TAG.PDF No mention of 'Platform'

Incorrect: May just be lighting conditions making the pink look indigo, but why is there a yellow box?

Question: Does anyone know why some of these signs are stretched fabric rather than plastic? Is it a sign that they have been prone to abuse?

Inconsistent: Old ticket sign not needed

Was Incorrect: Institute was spelt incorrectly but later corrected

Inconsistent: Someone forgot to or didn't make the standard cardboard signs for Trackwork at Leumeah. Instead we have these A4 pieces of paper.

Most people Who live in a country area refer to anywhere in the meto area as sydney so i think thats where you think there may be an inconcistancy.

also i would have thought the inconsistancy in the below sign was more obvious

Incorrect: Southern Highlands train is indicated as a "South Line" train at Glenfield, furthermore incorrect is the use of the grey bar, with a "South Line blue" colour box at the end.

Incorrect: Sign should say 'Macarthur via Campbelltown', although the sign was probably installed before Macarthur was built. Nonetheless, Leumeah and Minto Stations should be getting new signage soon as part of the Station upgrades

Image

Inconsistent: It also seems like that the word 'To' seems to be optional in some of the Platform destination signs.

Inconsistent: In a good way that the text is larger for the line diagram below the screen:

Strange: Wet Floor sign on the top of the station name sign.
Image

Inconsistent: Great variation
North Shore Line
Image
Berowra via Chatswood
Image
To Chatswood, Hornsby and Berowra
Image
To Hornsby & Berowra
Image

Inconsistent: There seems to be no agreement betwen City &/then Western/North Shore Line.
Image
Image
Although: All of these stations consistently use '&'
Image
There's even via North Shore Line at Auburn
Image

Inconsistent: This one seems to be the odd one out at Lidcombe, Usually it's simply 'City' not 'City Circle'

Just quickly going back to the CityRail station signage manual, I had a look today and it contains 122 pages.

Yes. One hundred and twenty two pages.

If you have gone through central lately you might have spotted updated signage, i wonder what CityRail is hiding:

The Liverpool one was certainly a sight. They are hiding letters for future exit designations. It was already raised here: viewtopic.php?f=42&t=65328&p=785760#p785760

Strange: According to this, http://www.flickr.com/photos/woosang/36 ... 6262769624
The photo failed to capture "Goulburn via Wondabyne (Notify guard)"

I'm sorry, but I'm not going to flick through 122 pages everytime you post a photo that you believe contradicts the standards.

If I see a photo and I remember something that I have seen in the manual, I will either correct it or confirm it.

I have the manual in .pdf form. It's a shame that I can't share it publicly.

From memory it is called RailCorp station, interchange and carpark signage standards. I'll have to check that.
