Westbus Volvo B10M TV 410's 3rd birthday celebrations

Postby Leopard_071 » Sat Feb 11, 2012 2:15 am

I had the pleasure of driving TV 410 for 4/5 years from new. I had the 2MD Army Band on tour during 410's 3rd birthday while in Coffs Harbour in 1990. I got a birthday cake and the band played Happy Birthday 410, the people in the motel could not believe that the the band was playing it for a COACH." I carried the Army Band on all of their trips they evern made me a"Honoury Member".

Haha that's funny. Never heard of anyone singing Happy Birthday for a bus
Is it the truth, or did you hear it from the truth engineer?

Mind you, this is the same Leopard 071 that got married in one of Calabro's early Dennings - and still married to Nancy!

Yeah Terry.

Oh my goodness! How come I did not see or hear any of this until just recently, I can't believe you guys didn't tell me about that day. I feel so left out right now, don't know if I should be shocked and dismayed or not! Lol!

I did drive that coach once, it went like a rocket around town but I didn't like it on the open road because it revved too high while "doing the 100". The two groups who were in the old girl when she dropped the tailshaft on those two occasions didn't like the coach either if I'm correct!

The only time that I remember TV410 "dropping" her tail shaft was about 1985 when Keith Yates have a load os soldiers on board and was comming down Orimba hill. I was suppose to take over at Coffs Harbour & take the Diggers on to Wacol camp (near Brisbane). He was due at 10pm, did not arrive untill 1:30am in TV418. I must look in my photo collection I am sure that I have a photo of the bent tailshaft in the "boot"

And it did it some time after that too, roughly about 3 to 4 months later. It was after the second time that Volvo fitted bigger uni-joints and a stronger tube as well which made the shaft survive. The cause was supposed to be the shaft being too long and standard items couldn't handle the pressures of the extra tailshaft length combined with the weight of the coach. If it had of been a route bus it would have been ok.

I found these photos of TV410's broken Tail Shaft. The photo of the Army Band was taken at the Motel in Coffs Harbour whe they played "Happy Birthday" to 410. I am very proud of this photo as 90cm x 60cm now hangs in the 2MD Army band room at Victria Barracks in Sydney. As you can see I have learnt to post right size photos///////

It's got a 2nd hand set of seatbelted seats and a new vinyl floor, but there's still no mistaking that it was Westbus.

If it has an auto in it then it definitely is the same vehicle, there was only ever one automatic Hyliner built.

What does the Yellow sticker with 1714 on TC598 mean?

That would probably be a number for the vehicle to access mine sites, many vehicles in country towns in WA have numbers like this...

It was on dry hire to South West Coach Lines for their Worsley Alumina contract near Bunbury. I have interior shots, I've just got to get near a computer to download them.
