Yes but they are not generally mechanics. Which means unless a drama is blatantly obvious, or their wife is menstruating, they don't touch. They like things like lights, wipers, oil leaks and of course weights and paperwork on the road, or a brake test if the rollers are out. Things where they don't have to get too dirty.
A defect is a defect in NSW. It has to be repaired with the defect given one of three inspection instructions, 1) self clearing requiring no action, 2) requiring an inspection at a Authorised Inspection Station or if you really piss them off 3) requiring an inspection at an RTA HVIS. Just about all defects are AIS. Self clearing defect notices are VERY rarely given and cover things like a cracked tail light lens or old wiper blade, or the Mermaid just wanting to feel important.
