AD Enviro 500 - Rockleigh Tours

Post by Tim Williams »

I would have thought by now someone would have posted a photo of this Kiwi bodied AD Enviro 500. Is it registed and on the road.
If so I presume the chassis/underframe must have been built to our current restrictive width regulations (or is the extra width in the body only on the AD bodied buses) and what about the weight problem over the front axle or is this unit to be used as a coach = no standees, lower payload etc.

Come on Victorian Gunzels - how about some photos and details!!!!!!

Hi Tim,
Unfortunately this bus is proving very illusive! Ive attached a picture of it which was sent to me via another driver where i work of the decker at Luna Park. The photo is a mobile phone one and of poor quality but gives you the general idea about the vehicle. Am looking forward to eventually getting a photo of it and hopefully it gets signage on it.

I have seen inside this vehicle and it is pretty tidy. No luggage racks , reading lights or luggage capacity. Its main usage is Primary schools to save them hirring 2 buses. The old one when finished being re-furbed will look similair.

V Line services? I though the Enviro 500 only do School Charters

I hope the MCW Metroliner is ready for my visit in 2 weeks time.

The picture seems be taken in South Melbourne, and clicking on the link provided in the post above, it seems it was on a charter at the time.
As for the V/line sticker on the windscreen, I think you'll find it might off be used to help with the overcrowding of trains in peak or used for emergency rail replacement.

Random question on this bus.

Can anyone say if it has (what has seemed to have been in the past) the typical Kiwi grill at the back which just happens to be in the shape of a Kiwi?

Yes, this bus has the rear grille with Kiwi birds on it, like Ritchies Northern Express Scania
Ritchies should buy a handful of these for their popular Northern Express

Unusually, the bus front dash panel have a grille.

That would indeed be what I'm talking about!

Quite funny seeing it in Aus.

Also, I can't disagree with you there on deckers on the busway, certainly would be a sight and IMHO certainly appropriate

For gods sake why refit this hideous front to that lovely Metroliner which should have been refurbished to its original looks, what bastardisation.

Here is a pic of the Metroliner at the depot back in 2009 when the owner arranged to have it posed.

I bet the MCW fans in the UK would like to see the Rockleigh Metroliner after its refit and plastic surgery it will be the only modern MCW between Australia and the UK.

Sorry not sure when they were taken but i would imagine the rebuild one was not too long ago. The AD was taken before it left NZ.
