Ben, there were never more than 5. I don't the numbers off the top of my head, but I do know that there were only ever 5, with one having been made into some form of cafe before it was transferred to Rozelle.

Years ago Waverley Council came up with some idea to actually have a small operating line at Bondi Beach. They got 1808 from a local enthuiast, cosmetically restored it and put it on display in Bondi Junction. They got two other cars from out in the bush and stored them in their depot at Zetland. When the idea fell through, SPER got all 3 cars.

1808 was equipped with W class bogies and control gear and ran in Melbourne for a while, and is now at MOTAT in Auckland.

Is this the tram you were thinking of??

Ok, I don't know which one that is, but it's one of the ones still in Rozelle depot.

Tramtastic wrote:I recall visiting the Public Transport Commission archives, and seeing a list of the trams disposed of. This could now be in State Records at Kingswood (near Penrith) but with so many books, photos and documents destroyed from the P.T.C. and its successor, the State Rail Authority, this list may well have also been a victim of destruction.
If it's a Government document, it'd be at the State Records Office, St. Mary's. Tramstatic, you may be interested to know that ex Sydney N car/Newcastle trailer 620 is part of a home in Cabramatta.
