TNSW and Metrobus liveried CB60 models

Post by Bairstow »

Hi all,

Over the holidays i've been playing around in cad, trying to create different liveried decal sets for a couple of my CB60 models. So far i've refined them down to 'close but not quite' by printing them off onto glossy self-adhesive sticker paper and cutting them out. My tinkering will continue for a little while yet whilst I wait for my decal paper to come in the post, but in the mean time below are a few photos to show my progress. The TNSW bus as you can see is further progressed than the metrobus, as the model the TNSW livery has been put on was a casualty of the shelf and lost its mirror, and so have been using it as the prototype for the decals. I know the TNSW livery doesn't exist yet on a CB60 EVO I, but I like it too much to not create one

BTW I know 4827 came out as a metrobus but with the V1 livery (had the stops down the side etc), but does anybody know if it actually had the livery i'm producing for it? And if so, would you be able to oblige me with some photos if available?

Thanks and enjoy

Wow! Awesome work. I can appreciate how much time went in to these. I would just recommend that the roofline fleet numbers be made a bit smaller to be in scale.

Unfortunately I can't provide any recent photos of 4827, however given it spent quite some time at Ryde depot as a Metrobus before being unwrapped, I would say with fair certainty it was in the Metrobus livery you have chosen.

They are abit rough I'm afraid.
You've made these metal buseslook like paper buses, going by the finish. I hope these are only dry runs.
I think the first CB60s to recieve the TNSW livery will probably be from private fleets as they have had them longer.

I dont mean to be rude, but if you read what i've said Swift they are test runs as i'm waiting for decal paper which I have ordered.

And thanks Mr Bean, positive encouragement with projects like this is always welcomed! Thank you for the pointer about the roof line fleet numbers, will be certainly incorporated into the final product :)

Will you cut around the existing headlights, upper lights at the rear and fuel filler etc when you use the decal paper?

An itnerseting project, I am looking forward to seeing the results too.

ps. how does the decal paper work? do you put it in an inkjet printer and then into water to release the decal from its backing?
.
Job done.

Hi AnthonyC,

I used a couple of the AUBUS 1002 models that came out a little while ago. In a CAD package I drafted up the models at the 1:76 scale, then tried to replicate the liveries as best I could from photos and from seeing the buses in real life.

Hey Andrew,

I tried to get away with it by using rub on decal paper whereby you print it with an inkjet printer, apply a layer of sticky to the top of it, let it dry then peel off the base layer and stick it down, THEN pull off the top (yes, its a pain!). Most of the decals have been applied to the TNSW model, but unfortunately I have found that this decal paper is too thin and to get a decent result you have to put multiple layers of it down to cover up the blue of the original model. Also, over the couple of months that have gone by since I did it the colours have started to bleed (i.e. the red of the lotus flower into the sky blue). Im too embarrassed to post a photo of how it went

Unfortunately uni is back now so I don't have the time to re-do the model until mid year break (this time using the waterslide decals that youve mentioned. From what I can tell they're the type the bus museum has used on their prepay volvo). I intend to cut around the headlights, but as for the upper lights on the rear end and the fuel filler they look reasonable when theyre printed. I'll be sure to post a photo when I re-do the model :D

Cheers

Hi everyone,

I ended up getting back around to finish the models in uni break (plus one more). The metrobus is my broken AUBUS 1002, and the other 2 are AUBUS 1001's that I picked up at very reasonable prices. I used waterslide decal paper rather than the rub-on decal paper that I initially tried as I found that after a month or so the colours tended to bleed. I am pretty happy with the finished product, but there is always room to improve. You can tell that the metrobus was the first one I did
Anyway, attached are some photos of what I ended up with (the TNSW one needs a new bumper decal as it didn't stick properly).
