Oh, ok I never thought about it that way. In that case I have been to 1 in recent times and 1 as a child, going to the MTT depot in Claremont in the late 70's with my Dad, he did some electrical work there as a commercial electrician,
Sad sad days with seas and seas of silver sh!t

UQB709, It used to be common practice at night for drivers doing the last 423T to call into Trigg and get their buses fuelled (pre CNG).
If it's not a ZF, take it back!

Re: Which depots have you been to?
But was that rostered... or just to get home earlier by saving time? Although I would suspect that there may not have been any pax on board... and it wouldn't be a practice supported by the PTA no doubt. Common practice (especially on night shift) does not always equate to operating by the book... having worked nights myself
Speaking of changeovers in depots, I do remember a driver walking out of Causeway one night to relieve at 200T to Claremont at West End Causeway. On finding the bus an artic - and not wanting one for the rest of the night - he swung a u-turn across Adelaide Tce to swap it for a rigid in the depot.... Causeway memories...
That could almost be a thread in itself - unlikely locations for u-turns with an artic, including those ones that got, ah, stuck....

We could even expand alter that a bit. Unlikely locations for artics doing a u-turn to lock up!UQB709 wrote:That could almost be a thread in itself - unlikely locations for u-turns with an artic, including those ones that got, ah, stuck....
When I was in New Zealand last year in November, there was an operator there where common practice was that along the routes heading in to the city, they'd stop and pull in to the depot and chuck a u-turn then align with the fuel bay. The driver would then refuel it while the next driver to take over the bus would prepare. This would happen as a rostered thing, however they never allowed the extra five minutes it took on the timetable! Although I'm sure it'd happen when a bus is low on fuel, they'd just go in and top it up without changing drivers... I couldn't see any problem with the bus being refueled with passengers on as long as the ignition was off, which it was.
Re: Which depots have you been to?
The only depot I have been to is Welshpool (at least I think it was Welshpool) to pick up some lost property.

Well what was your purpose? Did you get inside the depot or were you denied entry at the front gates?

Re: Which depots have you been to?
I find it interesting how the Transperth depots are rather strictly off limits and seen as if it was a security or customs zone. Barb wire, automatic gates, video surveillance etc. Thanks to the 9/11 attacks, we all live in fear and of being paranoid these days. Take your camera out, you're easily considered a terrorist. Private operators seem to be a bit more "with it".
From my viewing on the forum in the other states sections, it seems that it is alot easier to visit bus depots in the eastern states, of course, maybe not every company. When I was in NZ back in 2010, I had no problems getting into 3 depots, I just simply either called them up or sent them an email, rocked up at the depot, signed in and went through either with someone from management who told us about their buses, or just wondered by ourselves.
No wonder we were so good at hosting CHOGM...

Re: Which depots have you been to?
I find that very suprising. Considering the manager that would of been there in 2009.
