Metrocard the new ticket for Adelaide Metro
A trial of Adelaide’s new smartcard ticketing system, to be known as Metrocard, will begin later this year, in preparation for full operation of the system on all buses, trains and trams in 2012-2013.
The ticketing system equipment will be trialled on Adelaide Hills bus routes. Metrocard will replace the current Multitrip tickets as they are gradually phased out.
Singletrip and Daytrip tickets will remain as magnetic tickets, with Adelaide uniquely placed to integrate magnetic tickets with Metrocards through new dual purpose validators.

Sounds too complicated to me. I don't even use SmartRider in WA... :S
If it's not a ZF, take it back!

Re: Metrocard the new ticket for Adelaide Metro
No, you don't tag off with this system. It works much like a multitrip ticket, where the value of one "trip" is deducted each time you tag on, and that "trip" is valid for unlimited transfers within a 2 hour period. No tagging off, no multi-section fares, etc makes it a lot easier to understand than Perth or Queensland's smart card systems...
Re: Metrocard the new ticket for Adelaide Metro
I understand that but I was reffering to Bus 1809s post about Perths system (as were you)
Re: Metrocard the new ticket for Adelaide Metro
With the existing multi-ticket system that works well because the time each trip expires is physically printed onto the ticket, and you know exactly how long you've got to transfer. It's not going to work as well with smart cards because there wont be a time printed on the card telling you when a 2hr trip expires, so it might be better to eventually switch to the tag on/off system that Perth and Melbourne use.busrider wrote:No, you don't tag off with this system. I love how they say it wlll be trialled in the Adelaide Hills bus services first yet they don't have anywhere you can register to get a Metrocard- whoops!

Surely that will be part of the process - to provide places in the Hills to register. It is not a problem at this point in time.

Re: Metrocard the new ticket for Adelaide Metro
The equipment will be trialled in the hills first, that is the new Bus Control Unit for the driver and new Validator for the passengers. As mentioned previously, these validators have a swipe area for Metrocards and the existing slot for Metrotickets. Certain Hills drivers will receive their new Metrocards to enable them to access the system, but Metrocards for the public won't roll out until the second quarter of 2012. The trial is to ensure the technology is working and iron out any glitches with the system before its widespread introduction.

Re: Metrocard the new ticket for Adelaide Metro
I would have expected that ALL Hills drivers would have been issued with Metrocards, unless the new Bus Control Units are able to accept cassettes from those drivers without Metrocards (in the event of a change-over, etc).

No new tickets or cards yet, just the new equipment (validator and BCU). Can't wait until it starts to roll out everywhere!ubdh6 wrote:New Metrocard equipment goes live Monday 24 Oct (unless delayed again).

I'm sure the passengers will be well and truly confused by having to insert their current tickets a completely different way!

Re: Metrocard the new ticket for Adelaide Metro
I have seen enough people get confused when the validator is in a different place to what they are used to, let alone having to insert a ticket a different way. I will be catching at least one Hills bus when I am in Adelaide next month, so it will be interesting.
You got a real flash bus, but my one's flash one, eh

Re: Metrocard the new ticket for Adelaide Metro
Will you still be able to buy tickets from the driver Eagle Eye, or is that the magnetic ticket If this is the case, it sounds better than Metro (Tas) system, where you buy a paper ticket from the driver, however it is up to the driver to see if the ticket has expired, whereas the system SHOULD have included a barcode, that could be swiped when boarding again. Too much $$$ though, so only brought 1/2 a system

I feel like you were yelling when I read that post.
Re: Metrocard the new ticket for Adelaide Metro
Tickets that you buy from the driver (i.e. singletrip and daytrip tickets) will be the same white tickets with blue print that are used now. As the new validators have touch-spots to swipe MetroCards and slots for the existing MetroTickets the current paper tickets will be used for singletrip and daytrip tickets. The cost of producing MetroCards designed for single use would be a huge waste of money when the current paper tickets are still good for single use!

Re: Metrocard the new ticket for Adelaide Metro
Are they the same size tickets as the Croutz system (or bigger) like a Wayfarer
Re: Metrocard the new ticket for Adelaide Metro
The Metrocards or Metrotickets? The Metrotickets are exactly the same tickets as currently used for the Crouzet system. The metrocards are the same size as credit cards and will look very similar to credit cards.Tas Bus Nut wrote:Are they the same size tickets as the Croutz system (or bigger) like a Wayfarer

Re: Metrocard the new ticket for Adelaide Metro
Sounds like what we SHOULD have got, instead of selling all our Crouzet equipment to you As I said, Metro only buy 1/2 a system We got the credit card size "Greencard" but NOT the bonus to scan/read magnetic paper tickets.Eagle Eye wrote:The Metrocards or Metrotickets? Re: Metrocard the new ticket for Adelaide Metro
When it is all boiled down to it, the new Metrocard system is essentially a plug-in replacement/upgrade for the existing Crouzet system. The new touch-screen BCUs feature the same plug as the existing Crouzet BCUs and I wouldn't be surprised if the new hybrid validators which accept Metrocard tag-ons and existing "Edmondson" sized ticket validations have the same mounting as the current Crouzet validators. There has been a concerted effort this year to re-mount the validators and install the GPS module into buses in preparation for the new ticket system.
