BT Bus Drivers

Postby volvoB12BLE » Fri Oct 14, 2011 10:47 pm

Why do some BT Drivers have to drive like lunatics, rude gestures and cut off their fellow drivers from Private Companies,We all drive services under TRANSLINK,we all are doing the same job,we all have to put up with unrealistic running times, and some members of the public who are rude,a bit more consideration from Drivers from Private and BT.A friendly wave when drivers pass each other makes the shift a little better.

The same can be said of some drivers that work for private companies. It is a fact of life that some drivers see their runprint and think that they have to be there at the time stated regardless of how realistic it is.

I drive for BT at Willawong depot. Firstly before I contribute to this discussion I'd like to make it clear that anything I post on this board is my opinion, observation or experience and they are not necessarily the view/position of my employer or Brisbane City Council. What I've posted below are my personal opinions based on my experience of 3+ years driving at Willawong, Larapinta and (for 2 months) Garden City depots in the southern suburbs.

I would agree that some of our drivers (and I admit I'll have moments too) do some not so good things on the road. I think generally though we aren't too bad a bunch and I think we are slowly improving as a whole as our operation continues to expand. We do have a sizeable proportion of fairly new drivers I think and this may contribute to some of it. In my experience from driving on the southside, I find Veolia and Mt Gravatt drivers are generally quite good. Logan City and Park Ridge tend to be a bit of a mixed bunch. Some of the drivers have a big B12B donk and aren't afraid to use it  . Other drivers are quite good. I think though it would only be fair to mention that they probably don't always have the best schedules or traffic conditions/roads and I'd assume that some areas they serve don't have the best passengers either. I do get the impression that they operate in an environment that is a real uphill battle for them as drivers.

It should be noted too that Logan City as a bus company has pretty much doubled in size over the last decade, especially since Translink injected funding, supplied money for buses and overhauled services. The 555's and some rockets will frequently have standing loads in peak hours.
Is that the truth or did you read about it in a Rail Back on Track media release?
