Coach_Captain wrote:The only changes so far with the 411/412 timetable are the last two departures from Laverton to Westona.
The old departure times were 2019 and 2100, however, as of today (2/5) the new times are 2030 and 2110...

And guess what??? No Timetables... Management were not even aware of the changes.

New timetables for 411/412 are still not available online yet either. I believe some other evening trips ex Laverton may have been adjusted, as well as on weekends.

This notice states there will be reprinted timetables for Routes 811/812/823, 828, 843/845/849/861, 850 & 857 showing the new train connection times. There are no timetable changes as such.

There is now an excellent summary of the McHarry's changes on their website, as below. New timetables can also be viewed on their website.

I notice that 562/572 have listed Timetables up to 30.4.11. Notwithstanding the current Roadworks diversion (scheduled now to end in June), is that an opportunity for a revision at all during May? For the expanding area they now service surely 30 and 40 min frequencies are redundant... and in the peaks even that is hard to maintain...

I picked up my copy of the new 561 timetable off a bus at the station but have been to their office several times to pick up timetables. I don't think the trespassing sign applies to someone going to their office for a legitimate reason, and I have always found the lady at the front desk to be very helpful.

Thanks, I might try and get there early next week and hope they haven't thrown out all the old 525 timetables!

Ample copies are available on the bus - Route 505 Moonee Ponds to Melbourne University via Parkville Gardens. Bus times effective 8 May, 2011, train times effective 8 May 2011 (v.1 Apr 11). I note it has an earlier version of the route map than available on the Metlink website.

On the suject of 505, I might have to eat my words on my doubts about loadings - caught the 17:03 trip from Royal Park to Moonne Ponds this afternoon, and the trip carried about 11 passengers! - half a dozen students were onboard already, and a few more boarded at Royal Park, almost all alighted with Parkville Gardens, but I think one passenger did the whole trip. We even picked up a passenger within the estate for Moonee Ponds! Great to see some healthy use. :)

The extended 561 trips were carrying a few passengers at the Coburg end each trip from my observations around 4pm. But anyone noticed the dodgy arrival times for 561 at Coburg? Weekday buses are given excessive time to travel about 1km from Pentridge estate timepoint to Coburg - one evening trip has as much as 26 minutes, when it can done within 5 minutes, even with some peak-hour traffic on Sydney Rd! For some reason they've used the departure times back to Macleod as the arrival times, rather than give accurate times for someone who may wish to change to another service.

Kind Regards

Allowing an extra 5 minutes would be fine, but allowing 10-20 extra minutes on top of the normal running time, as the case on several trips, is poor timetabling - for someone who doesn't know that this much fat has been put in, it makes the trip look like it takes much longer than reality, and they might not even bother with the bus.

It also means the journey planner can't give optimum results to connecting services.

Sunbury Bus Service:

481/483/485/486/487/488/489 - Bus times 8 May 2011/Train times 8 May 2011 v.1 (Apr 11)

It's a shame that Tullamarine's route 500 timetable isn't included in this booklet to give a complete picture of Sunbury's bus services, after all Metlink pays for it.

The 500 isnt included in the Sunbury Bus lines booklet because Sunbury dont run it.

This has been discussed before - in the late 80s/early 90s The Met used to produce timetable booklets for a region that showed all services, regardless of operator.

There is no reason that Metlink could not incorporate the 479 & 500 into the Sunbury booklet, with appropriate references that Tullamarine operate the 479 & 500.

At least the Craigieburn booklet now includes 544, something that should have been done previously.

Thank you Craig. At least someone understands what integrated transport is supposed to mean. After all the average punter couldn't care less which company runs their bus service as long as it turns up, and as I said before Metlink pays for the timetables, not the individual operators.

They tended to be released around 1992. There were some significant changes to timetable formats in that year with the area booklets, glossy booklets provided for some single routes and new rail timetables with a lot of information provided about connecting bus and tram services including maps, as well as a new style of presentation of timetables with fold out flaps showing what information was on that page. Very well done, shame it only lasted the year. The last ones I saw were the Doncaster / Templestowe series in December 1992, some other timetables from this time previously in a booklet were released in the standard gold and teal format (eg 254).

Some examples can be found at https://sites.google.com/site/melbbustt562/1-march-1992 for Mill Park, https://sites.google.com/site/melbbustt269/1-december-1992-timetable for the Box Hill routes to the north, https://sites.google.com/site/melbbustt254/1-march-1992-timetable for City to Northland / LaTrobe Uni and I also have some not yet online for Werribee, Melton (which also included the relevant Vline timetable for Melton) and a few other places.

However, even post The Met, at least one operator has produced all of the timetables for an area in the one booklet. Invicta produced this booklet: https://sites.google.com/site/melbbustt679/23-july-2001-timetable in 2001, and for some time after (and possibly before) which also included quite a few other local routes in the Croydon area, so it doesn't necessarily follow that you need a centralised organisation to take the lead, although it helps.

In this case it does seem a trifle silly if Metlink are paying for the timetable to stop short of making it genuinely useful by including the small number of other relevant routes, especially given the self contained nature of the services in Sunbury. In fact, if they were really on the ball, they would do as I mentioned with the Met Melton area timetable booklet from 1992 and include the Vline timetable as well.

I have a Werribee booklet in Met format from 1994. The next booklet I have for Werribee is for January 2002, when there were several new routes introduced (441, 442, 443, 444 & 440 extended by about 500% to become a large circular route). In the interim, standard DL timetables were issued for each route.

The first edition of the Invicta booklet was issued in November 2000, interesting in that newsprint quality paper was used for the timetable pages, unlike later editons.

The last one was issued in November 2008, when it was decided to make the pages DL, and was as thick as a paper back novel.

Kind Regards

Craig :)
