Mechanical Tech info for Hino RC520P

Post by longlux »

Hi all

There does not appear to be tech sections so I will ask My question here.

My wife & I own a 1972 Hino RC520P, I would like to fit a Turbo, JAK Brake to to the engine(DK20), change the diff ratios & fit power steering. Is this all possible & who would be the best to get in contact with in West Oz.

This is our bus

Hi there! Great to hear of another who has a DK20! Ours is a 1972 and we're looking at doing similar work.

From what I've found there was a model of this that came with a turbo. From the pictures in the engine manual the only thing which was different was the inlet and exhaust manifold. It would be a case of talking with a truck turbo specialist to determine the correct one to suit the engine capacity and flow characteristics. Modifying the exhaust would be interesting - it may be simpler to manufacture a new manifold with the flanges exactly where you need them.

Re the JAK brake, I'm getting one from a truck wrecker (with the same diameter as the exhaust manifold) and using a electric/pneumatic system to activate it from a switch on the column.

Re the power steering, I'm looking for a power assist ram to fit in the same place as the steering damper and run either a belt-driven pump off the engine with hoses to the front, or an electric pump mounted at the front.

Not sure what the options are for the diff. I'd like to get a better cruising speed than 85km/hr! I don't want a rocket ship, but would like to cruise at about 95 without it having a hernia every time a hill looms on the horizon.

Would love to hear more from you and compare notes and pictures.

Cheers,

Chris & Fay

Good to see someone else with the same Ideas.

I have made some enquires with WA Hino & found some info info in my parts list book , I was looking in the wrong area of it before.

If they can dig up an original for it or something compatible I will post up the info.

I have a Workshop book, I am in the process of scanning it in my spare time, once I have completed it I can send you a copy if you want it.

Thanks Joe.

I'll check with a contact at the local Hino dealer to see if they can find any old parts around the country.

I've also got a photocopy of the engine manual for this vehicle, but the only thing shown re the turbo is a picture of the exhaust and inlet manifold for the turbo model. I can scan a copy of this if you like?

Cheers,

Chris

Joe,

Would love to get the electrical section as I'm rebuilding the dash and the original wiring is a nightmare! Would it be possible to get a copy of this section? Will cover all costs if you can help.

Cheers,

Chris

Hi I need some advise....I have a hino DK20 engine that requires a rebuild, $6500 from Hino for a rebuild kit plus 3.5K to fix

Or can anybody make a suggestion in what I should do ! The Dk20 is very difficult to maintain with parts being so rare ? Can anybody offer a alternative engine ? Or know of a DK20 replacement engine !!!

I was looking at a ER200 hino engine, but it was sold before I could purchase !!!!! Any advice appreciated
