There is still a Mobil in Summer Hill (Sydney) with Mobil signage & all.

Also back about a month ago, Truckstop 31 at Marulan Service Centre has changed over to Caltex, but still printed the Mobil logo on top of their dockets.

I noticed on my Journey to Batemans Bay the Mobil at Cann River has become a United. I'm guessing some sites are being onsold.

You will find, especially in rural areas that many sites are privately owned and the owner of the site has entered into a branding agreement with another company. Bit different to a site being onsold.

Correct.

They are simply agents for Mobil and as I previously stated, were previously agents for Mobilcard which was withdrawn nationally as part of the sale of the metropolitan sites to 7 Eleven.

I read on average fuel cards can provide up to 60% of a regional petrol stations business, therefore these privately owned sites would be silly not to enter into agreements with other companies to protect their business.

Doubt it would be as high as 60% of business using fuel cards. Maybe 60% using all cards including fuel, debit and credit. When I used to work in the servo business I would say that around 5% or so of our business was fuel cards. Since then there is a lot more salary packaging going on where fuel cards are included as part of the deal so no doubt the amount has risen, but really doubt to as high as 60%.

Will the Quix branding be killed?

I sure hope so, as it'll mean the end of this abortion

The answer to your question can be found on said website here:

http://www.quix.com.au/profile.htm

Specificaly the bit that says "On October 4th, 2010, the Quix Foodstores business was purchased by 7 Eleven Stores Pty Ltd." Doubt 7Eleven would keep it as a seperate brand.

Haha, I couldn't read the website, I could barely stand looking at the front page for more than 10 seconds, letalone looking through the other pages.

The Mobil servo on the corner of Glynburn and Magill Rds, Kensington Gardens (Adelaide) has had the store and canopy branded as an "On The Run" (consistent with other outlets owned by Peregrine Corp); however the Mobil sign on top of the price board remains. The Mobil servo at the "Maid and Magpie" intersection (corner Fullarton Rd and North Tce, Kent Town) has the large Mobil sign from above the price board removed. I wait with baited breath to see what will go in there.

The Quix brand is actually owned by a seperate company. They exist in the USA and are not necessarily connected to Mobil service stations.

You wouldn't know it, but it appears they have updated the store listings and some of the other details on the Quix website. Until recently, they listed stores that had closed over five years ago.

The (former) Mobil servo on the corner of Glynburn and Magill Rds, Kensington Gardens (Adelaide) now has been completely branded as an "On The Run" and I could see no traces of the Mobil brand when passing the servo today.

When I was bringing Fuji artics over from Adelaide a fortnight ago, I filled up at Gull, which was the Mobil truckstop in Port Augusta. They said that it was going to be run from Gull here in WA. Some Mobil independents in SA wouldn't take motorcharge or fleetpass, so instead of taking 5 cards, I just planned my journey better and avoided them.

Apologies for digging up an old thread, but better than starting a new one.

Eleven months on and the rebranding exercise has seen a number of Mobil sites here in Melbourne converted to 7 Eleven. The conversions have been more or less cosmetic, although I know of a couple of sites that required remodelling of the former workshop areas in order to convert them into shop space. There have also been some sites that were closed down completely or sold off to other companies.

I believe the first 7 Eleven is soon set to open in the ACT.

Noticed two 7 Eleven tanker trucks today. They certainly look ex Mobil with the style of trailers.

Kippax re-opened on Monday and wouldn't be surprised if the one on Canberra Ave at Fyshwick is open too. There is also a Mobil in the suburb of Spence that is making the local weekly free mag because it is evicting the tenants of the workshop to make a bigger shop. It has also upset the local supermarket fearful of competition. Though if they took the time to see what 7 Elevens stock in Australia their fears are totally unfounded.

I don't think a supermarket has much to worry about in terms of a convenience store nearby. In the 1980s when convenience stores were a relatively new concept, convenience stores had a competitive advantage over supermarkets because they were permitted to trade late into the evening and in some cases, through the night. Now that supermarkets generally trade past 5pm and on weekends, convenience stores have had to rely more on impulse shopping as opposed to targeting people who needed to stock up because they worked whilst the supermarkets were open.

I've seen articles from when convenience stores were first introduced and much of their marketing was aimed at households where both the man and woman worked and thus their only option was to rely on a convenience stores. Back then, the trend was to do a big weekly shop whereas now, people generally visit the supermarket numerous times a week, probably because its open outside 9 to 5 work hours.

I tried Canberra's firet 7 Eleven today, what surprised me was that besides the new electronic price display out the front. They still used the old Mobil pumps with the flip dot displays.

Now I don't know if today was a special opening or showing the other 7 Eleven operators what their store look like, but there was quite a few people of Indian people in dinner wear walking around looking & eating.

The changeover generally involves an external refurbishment in the form of new signage and some painting. The pumps and tanks are retained, although the pumps might get new stickers to change the fuel branding to be in line with 7 Eleven's policies.

The shop is where most of the work is carried out. A couple of Mobil sites here have had the workshop bays guttered and converted in to shop space, which in some cases doubles or even triples the amount of retail space.

Peregrine (On The Run), who bought the Adelaide Mobil sites, appear to be doing a lot more external work to the sites including new pumps. I am not sure what Peregrine's policy is with retaining staff from Mobil, but from what I understand here in Melbourne, Mobil staff are made redundant once the site changes to 7 Eleven.

I've noticed that nearly all Mobils have been converted to
7-Elevens. I hear teenagers who live near these converted Mobils have been celebrating, because it is now much easier to get slurpees.
