Re: New 901 Frankston to Melbourne Airport timetable
A few points -
I take it Eastland Shopping Centre in Ringwood is no longer served by the new 901? If so, a retrograde step. The Shopping Centre stop is always well patronised and is a major traffic generator for this service. I know it is only a short distance to the Railway Station but it is across the other side of the congested Maroondah Highway and this will not be well received, especially amongst some of the elderley patrons who use the service down Wantirna Road from Eastland.
As a comparison with the current Smartbus service the last "through" service Weeknights now departs Frankston at 10.49pm arriving Ringwood at 0010 - as oppossed to the current 12.00 midnight bus arriving Ringwood at 01:27 - a full 80 minutes earlier!! I take it the use of the Lilydale Invicta depot is no longer for the revised 901 which is the reason for this earlier finish? Having said that, there are usually very few takers on the 0027, 0057, and 0127 arrivals into Ringwood anyway from what I have seen. Still, it is a service reduction whichever way you look at it.
Given the current buses always depart Ringwood on time without fail, I am a little bit edgy as to service reliabilty with buses originating at a point nearly 3 hours earlier. Will this now, at 115 kms, be the longest suburban bus run in Melbourne? Or is the 902 still longer. Some of the running times in peak period exceed 4 hours on the new 901. This will be a test of patience for those hardy enough to try it end-to-end?

Well picked up. Yes, that is correct.scottydl wrote:I take it Eastland Shopping Centre in Ringwood is no longer served by the new 901?
902 is only 76km long at present, while 903 covers 86km. So yes, it will be Melbourne's longest (until the 902 is extended to Werribee).scottydl wrote:Will this now, at 115 kms, be the longest suburban bus run in Melbourne? Or is the 902 still longer. Finally, there's frequent service to Melbourne Airport from Melbourne City without taking Skybus. (Simply take the Broadmeadow Line to Broadmeadow Station then 901 will do), which will save commuters a lot of money.
On that note, I just wondering how can you get to the 901 stop once you get off the plane? Thanks
