WA PTA Unusual observations thread - September 2010

Please post your unusual sightings here.

Anything relating to Transperth bus/train and ferries is acceptable as long as it's not an everyday sighting.

CNG Bus 2070 arrives on Route 414

Postby <smarTTrams> » Thu Sep 02, 2010 10:36 am

Yesterday morning (01.09.10) OC500LE CNG bus 2070 was seen for the first time doing Route 414. This is the highest number yet seen or ridden in on Route 414.

(I did a search for "2070" on the August obs topic and got no results. If this has already been reported, my apologies.)

PS
It's time the location of numbers on buses is standardised.

There are now so many different locations where the numbers are located (and their colour -- who dreamed up using white digits on front silver panels!!) that I no longer know where to look for the number when a bus passes me when I'm on foot. At least the number on the rear of the bus seems to be standardised with a good-sized white at the top left-hand corner!

Personally, I'd like to see the Brisbane Transport position used. Clear, and easy to locate!
If it's not a ZF, take it back!

Request for posts to include what makes obbo unusual

Postby <smarTTrams> » Sun Sep 05, 2010 1:41 pm

Your post, perthbus, seems to me to be perfectly normal (that a Path bus would do a round trip of 21's and a 55F in an afternoon) yet I'm sure you wouldn't post this if it wasn't unusual.

Could I request that posts in this WA PTA Unusual observations thread always briefly state what is unusual about it?

Of course it wouldn't be necessary in a case such as this:
On Friday 09.09.10 at about 1630 hours, the driver-training bus PATH003 was seen turning left from Daglish Street into Grantham Street following the 401F route.

<smarTTrams> ... coming or going ... <smarTTrams>
Greens promise green trams for Perth

PS
There is a bus pointer in Grantham Street before Daglish Street indicating that Route 401 buses heading east along Grantham Street must turn right into Daglish Street.

Fortunately, as it is in the section of Gratham street not travelled by Route 401, it can never be seen by a driver actually doing route 401T, so it can't do any harm! (Can't do any good either.)

TP1830 is based in Joondalup. And does not belong in the Morley Contract which is where the 21 and 55 routes are in. So to see a bus from Joondalup not in its home contract is unusual.

1700 was required at Karrinyup today so we straight swapped 1849 this morning, they'll go back tomorrow morning.

Quick snap of 1769 after it arrived back yesterday.

2000 was seen back in Morley hands this afternoon on Alexander Dr.

Forgot to mention this earlier this week but the newly painted CAT buses at Claisebrook now have fleet decals on their right side just under the drivers cab window to the left. It must of been a problem for drivers trying to find their bus if they couldn't see a fleet number on one side. Also would've been hard for enthusiasts too. Although for some reason its not in the same place as it is on the normal CATs?

Saw it turning into Albany Hwy from Cecil Ave Cannington on that route this morning, it is one hell of a slow bus
