Interestingly the Whittlesea one seems to cover a large area outside the City of Whittlesea including much of Banyule, Nillumbik and Darebin. Good idea given most bus routes don't limit themselves to council areas...

The Manningham one is the same covering an area bounded by Burke Rd, the railway line, Mooroolbark and Greensborough.

Does this mean a new public transport map isn't far away?

^^^ We live in hope :D
Apparently there will be one this year, but this is hardly reliable, sources are the metlink website and (IIRC) the staff in the MetShop.

You're right there, but it has always been thus. I recall many occasions in the late 80s and 90s where a new map was supposedly imminent "within the next month" according to Metshop staff and been much longer...

Yarra Ranges (September 2009) - http://www.metlinkmelbourne.com.au/asse ... Ranges.pdf

With the exception of Casey, Hobsons Bay & Moreland, these are the first editions of these maps in the "full-color" style (as opposed to having all bus routes as orange).

The Casey map partly shows the proposed Frankston area changes (771 extended to Langwarrin to replace 768, and new 778 Kananook - Carrum Downs via Seaford Industrial estates) which were initially due to commence in June, but have been postponed.

I suspect that printed versions of the above maps will be available in the near future, if not already.
The printed guides for Casey, Hobsons Bay, Hume & Moreland are now available at the Met Shop.

In addition to the Manningham guide (August 2009) the Met Shop now has the Whittlesea guide (August 2009) in stock.

These guides are not always available from the self service racks due to space limitations. It pays to ask one of the staff!

Also, there have been ads in the Diamond Valley News alerting readers to the fact that the Banyule guides will be put in letterboxes in the next few weeks with a phone number to call if you don't get one in that time.

In addition to the online map dated February 2010 the Met Shop has a new printed version of the Maribyrnong guide dated December 2009. If there is any difference between the two versions I can't see it.

I sighted two passengers on the 0642 Werribee to Flinders train this morning reading and discussing the Wyndham guide.

An updated map for Hume is now available online, (incorrectly) dated April 2010.

http://www.metlinkmelbourne.com.au/asse ... _Shire.pdf

The map now includes Routes 535 & 902, as well as Coolaroo station. Route 500 has been updated on the Sunbury inset (no longer operates to Vic Uni).

Kind Regards

The good news:

The following maps have been updated online, all dated September 2010.

Melbourne
Port Phillip
Yarra

The bad news:

They will all be out of date again on 4 October as none of them show the new DART network of services. Unbelievable!

Don't Metlink or BusVic proof read these??
I know these come to Metro trains for proof reading of train info.

You're right, this is unbelievable.

Staff from both BusVic and Metlink spend countless hours checking these maps - I should know.

The bus network on these maps were finalised several months ago, with the plan to release them around April - not sure why it has taken so long for them to come online. I would be seriously concerned if printed versions have recently been ordered!

Work has commenced on updating a significant number of local area maps for 901 & DART, along with the various other changes occurring at present.

Kind Regards

Craig :)
