That was a great car indeed. But it wasn't great just because it was a Holden, it was great for many reasons (including the all Aussie iron under the bonnet).

Seconded. It's the argument bogans have during the summer months in Australia. During the winter, the question is "Are you some sort of poof cuz uze r inna AFL?" or "Are you some sort of bogan cuz uze r inna Rugby?"

I only prefer holdens because they are owned by GM which also owned Detroit Diesel who built the 6v92. Personally I think Ford has the edge on looks since the BA but the Holden has more power and a sportier ride:

BF XR8: Sluggish but extremely smooth and well styled, fairly low quality interior but functional. Average sound system and very few options come standard.
VE SS: Snappy acceleration, firm and solid ride (however sometimes too solid), nicely styled quality interior, but can't see end of bonnet or boot. Would be a pain to park. Also has a very low front spoiler which would catch on everything.

Personally, after having Jap, Aussie and Diesel cars, Japanese all the way. Why pay for a big 6 or 8 when you can get the same power from a four with better economy, cheaper rego and lower servicing costs.
If you knew, you'd be in a Subaru...

For me, brand loyalty = ZERO.

We have a 2005 Holden VZ Commodore SV6 and a 2004 Ford BA Falcon XT.

Speaking of which, the Falcon has been handed over to a local LPG fitter for a liquid LPG injection system install. More details coming soon!

Well that makes sense. So even if the Holden car was a poorly built piece of crap, you would still buy it based on the fact that GM once built a Detroit Diesel engine??? That would be like me buying a Subaru because they once built Fuji Articulated Buses.

But on the subject at hand, If I HAD to pick from Holden or Ford, it would be Holden. Anybody who takes an interest in cars will agree that the Falcon and Territory in recent years have had so many issues with ball joints, brake hoses and numerous other issues, while the Commodore has moved ahead in leaps and bounds with very few issues.

That said, I tend to favour Japanese cars more often than not. Honda and Subaru being my two favourites at the moment. I currently own a Honda Prelude Coupe, but I am considering moving into a Subaru Liberty 3.0 GT in the next few months. And no.......not because they once built the Fuji Articulated Bus.

You won't get a 3.0 GT - you might get a 3.0R or 3.0 spec B?

No new Liberty are being sold now until the new model is released later this year, unless you find one sitting at a dealer.

Here's a sneak peek of the front for the new Liberty.

Aren't Suby Joobas frightfully costly to repair once a component fails due to wear? They have been notorious for their costly repairs for years yet the spectacle wearing middle class masses continue to buy them like they are a status symbol  .
The drivers are down there with Toyota and Volvo too.

That four cylinder boxy thing that propels most of them continue to sound like a John Deer tractor and sound horrible when a loud exhaust is fitted.
I can't understand the appeal of this overrated brand in Australia.

Think what you like. They are a real drivers car. Everything is designed in these cars to maximize the driving pleasure for people like myself who like driving. You cant really claim the Symetrical All Wheel Drive System that Subaru provides in its cars is overrated. These cars have amongst the best handling characteristics in its class.
