The "Holden Racing Team" Leyland Atlantean HRT 052, fitted with Roe bodywork was found at the Campground adjacent to the Chase. It's been faithfully painted with the Holden Racing Team livery of the late 90's. There is signwriting for Osborn's of Muswellbrook on it which leads me to believe that it could be a Leyland Atlantean PDR2/1 that new to West Yorkshire PTE in 1971 as their no. 419, and then imported and sold to Osborn's as MO7248. As the camper was unattended at the time I didn't fancy my chances for a look-see inside ...
At Skyline was this BP-liveried Commer Camelback-style bus, with Victorian rego FNG 345. Again unattended, anyone knows of its history?
Many coaches also visit Bathurst - here at the coach park is a Selwoods coach, a delightful old Mercedes belonging to Corby's of Oberon, and a Mills Tui-bodied Greyhound Scania.
How boring ... lots and lots of white coaches!!!!
The silver of the Volgren decker and the Hoppies coach kinda breaks this up a little. In the background is a Heli-Aust Bell 206 helicopter making its final approach (?) to the main straight Helipad.
As mentioned earlier Jones Bros provided the shuttle service between the Main Straight and Reid Park at the top of the mountain. A plethora of buses from Hinos and Isuzus to new low-floor Mercedes and Volvos were used. The ride I had in one of the Merc OC1621's was fun as we chugged up the steep grades to Reid Park in first gear! It was also the first time I rode in a Mercedes OH1830L - quite impressive and love the citybus/charter CB60 hybrid interior arrangement. As I paid good $$$$$$ to see a car race I didn't stick around to take bus photos but they would've looked stunning in the sunshine.
This Bustech-bodied Volvo B7RLE (MO3279) leaves passengers with no doubt which of the two marques won the Great Race.
