[ Bris ] Mt Gravatt B. S. Tiger Artic.
Mt Gravatt Bus Service has the only Leyland Tiger / Superior bodied Artic in Australia.
It is helping out with Rail Replacement duties over the Easter break.
Below is 3 external photos & 1 pic of the dash.

nice to se the Tiger logo on the steering wheel.I remember marvelling at how modern the dashes looked on these things when I rode a new one over 20 years ago.
This one looks ratshit now and the presence of an Allison selector is tragic.
The body style is very average indeed(and that's being kind).
I would have loved to have ridden this artic with a hydracyclic box still in place.

Whilst I see this unique piece of busdom, usually at least 3 days a week on the road, I have never been close enough to have a good view. I would like to see them on here as well and compare dash layouts to the brand new Tigers I delivered to Hornibrooks a few years ago when Volvo eliminated Leyland.
Alas I know it has been reported how to view pictures that only appear as a box with an X in them, would someone remind me how to view them properly. It seems to have only happened with MAN 18.310's pictures, all others seem OK.

Unfortunately cost of & finding gearbox parts together with finding drivers who can drive Leyland semi autos properly (which is harder than finding drivers who can drive crash boxes) caused the gearbox replacement. Whilst purists and gunzels may not like the change it is what is being forced on to operaters in this day & age. Despite its age "Nanna" still does a good job for its age on a Algester to Redemeer College Rochdale school run plus rail replacement, the Superior body was very modern when new but hasn't aged well, as for the "Kermit" green its not my favourite Mt Gravatt colour scheme.Swift obsessor wrote:nice to se the Tiger logo on the steering wheel.I remember marvelling at how modern the dashes looked on these things when I rode a new one over 20 years ago.

How many HP the engine has?

As much as I hate tigers, I never realised they came in artic form and am intrigued. Thanks for the photos.

The left part of that steering wheel looks like it needs to be re-trimmed in black vynal. The tiger badge would be easily put back on after re-trim.
Re:
I cannot get over how people find the pnuemo's etc hard to drive - they are just like driving a manual except you don't have to use your left foot; I guess it's just that people get lazy and start to flat shift them. I actually enjoyed driving the two Atlanteans that I did.White Super Power wrote:Unfortunately cost of & finding gearbox parts together with finding drivers who can drive Leyland semi autos properly (which is harder than finding drivers who can drive crash boxes) caused the gearbox replacement.
I guess the old adage that applies to rental cars applies to these: drive 'em like you stole 'em. If the lazy ones had to do the gearbox repairs, they'd soon enough drive them properly.

Re: [ Bris ] Mt Gravatt B. S. Tiger Artic.
The mechanics at Mt Gravatt told me it is a normal rigid chassis with the trailer built entirely by Superior. I had the job of refurbishing the black/silver cast alloy badge on the back.
It is rear steer, it holds over 100 people as required and the Alison box with this lower HP motor is fine as it's quite underpowered and needs a few revs. The trailer tows slightly to the right, and its former regular driver laughs exactly like a kookaburra. And I am NOT joking.
