Metlink Local Travel Guides

Post by Nexas »

Hi guys.

I swear I made a post back in May, but I can't find it.

Way back in May I picked up a brand new Metlink local travel guide for City of Bayside, effective May 2007, from Elsternwick Railway Station.

Anyway, these are now starting to pop up all over Melbourne, one for each local government area, so keep your eyes out. These are more comprehensive and readable than the previous 2004/2005 issues.
Views expressed by me are strictly my own, not of my friends, employer, or anyone else.

Dear All

Collected today:
  • City of Casey, effective August 2007 (at Dandenong Station)
  • City of Greater Dandenong, effective August 2007 (at Dandenong Station)
  • City of Monash, effective October 2007 (at Ringwood Station).
Some observations:
  • Inset maps have been provided for the Cranbourne & Dandenong CBD areas, to make it easy to follow the large number of routes
  • New October 2007 train network map in Monash guide shows V/line train and coach connection symbols
  • The City of Casey map shows Route 840 rather than Routes 834 & 835
  • 926 isn't shown as entering Lakeside
  • 797 is shown going to wrong direction in the Cranbourne Inset, but is correct on the larger map
Kind Regards

My thoughts precisely.

I was lucky to recieve some in the post from a friend of mine who works for DOI but he had a lot of difficulty getting them.

Apart from letterbox drops and railway stations where can you get these Metlink pocket guides from- is there a place I can e-mail to get them also. But not the Metlink shop.

Perhaps a large-size shopping centre information desk?

Apologies for bumping the thread again, but there seem to be a fair amount of City of Maroondah guides stocked in Ringwood Library, which is literally a 2 minute walk from the station.

The Met Shop now has stocks of all of these maps with the exception of Hobsons Bay, which should be available soon. They also have most of the other guides that have been issued in 2007 & 2008.

There's a revised City of Casey map on the Metlink site as well, effective September 2008. Various corrections have been made, most notably to the Cranbourne City inset, which has also been expanded to cover Cranbourne West.

Dear All

The latest map to come out is for Cardinia Shire, dated June 2009.

Most notably, it shows the 981 Nightrider (Dandenong - Cranbourne - Dandenong loop). Unfortunately, there are a few minor errors with the route, and the 968 Belgrave nightrider was left off.

All local travel guides issued for now on will include the relevant Nightrider routes, with details of both inbound and otubound trips shown. :)

Kind Regards

Dear All

The Metlink website now has the following local area maps online:

Casey (August 2009) - http://www.metlinkmelbourne.com.au/asse ... _Casey.pdf

Darebin (September 2009) - http://www.metlinkmelbourne.com.au/asse ... arebin.pdf

Hobsons Bay (August 2009) - http://www.metlinkmelbourne.com.au/asse ... ns_Bay.pdf

Hume (August 2009) - http://www.metlinkmelbourne.com.au/asse ... 2_Hume.pdf

Manningham (August 2009) - http://www.metlinkmelbourne.com.au/asse ... ingham.pdf

Moreland (August 2009) - http://www.metlinkmelbourne.com.au/asse ... reland.pdf

Whittlesea (September 2009) - http://www.metlinkmelbourne.com.au/asse ... tlesea.pdf

Wydnham (September 2009) - http://www.metlinkmelbourne.com.au/asse ... yndham.pdf

Yarra Ranges (September 2009) - http://www.metlinkmelbourne.com.au/asse ... Ranges.pdf

With the exception of Casey, Hobsons Bay & Moreland, these are the first editions of these maps in the "full-color" style (as opposed to having all bus routes as orange).

The Casey map partly shows the proposed Frankston area changes (771 extended to Langwarrin to replace 768, and new 778 Kananook - Carrum Downs via Seaford Industrial estates) which were initially due to commence in June, but have been postponed.

I suspect that printed versions of the above maps will be available in the near future, if not already.

Kind Regards

Craig :)
