As requested by translink man, here are some plane pictures from yesterday afternoon. It was the first time I'd spotted there with Runway 34 Left in operation.
I'm trying to figure out what the smoke is coming out of the gear on VH-OJA. Brake smoke? Blown tyre?
A bit of a different angle from the Observation Deck. Pictured here is Emirates 777-300ER (A6-EBE) arriving at the gate from Auckland - the first of two stops on her way back to Dubai. Behind you can see the M5 East overpass, the old Control Tower and of course Botany Bay.
Seeing double? The Qantas 747-400 at Gate 24 is VH-OJH, about to commence boarding as QF1 to London via Bangkok, whilst the one behind being towed to gate is VH-OJQ.
I love the setting sun which always greets the British Airways 747 as they leave Sydney. Here G-BNLW is retracting her gear as she climbs away on what would be a very long return flight to London via Bangkok.
And finally, 3 planes as seen from the terminal. Thai Airways 747-400 (HS-TGR) is parked at gate whilst British Airways 777-200 (G-YMMP) is being pushed back for departure - in the background a Qantas 767-300 has just departed from Runway 34R.

The Name is actually V Australia, and a great livery but unfortunently there is red on the tail (How much red do we need?)
kitkat271, great photos! Always love seeing you work on here, I rather like the last one with the TG 744 tail, BA 777 Tail and a QF 763 taking off in the background!

Re: [NSW] At Sydney Airport 24/9
Just to clariffy the smoke coming off the gear of that B744 is actually just dust and bits of tarmac falling off as The aircraft climbs.

Re: [NSW] At Sydney Airport 24/9
GeneralBus is mostly right. The reason that the dust falls off is because the brakes are applied just before the wheels enter the landing gear bays, to ensure they're not still spinning and potentially causing damage to parts inside the bays.
As for bits of tarmac, I would hope that a runway built to take an A380 would be better built than that!

Stay safe. Drive safe.
