Dash Board shots

Hi all.

This may seem abit strange. but I am interested in bus dash boards and lay outs.
I would like to see some more dash shot from around Australia.

Hope to see some here real soon.

Not strange at all. I have a few STA ones here to start us off.

STA Mk II Mercedes 0305 No. 2308 dashboard

Mk II 2424 looks a little different - with a new speedo and textured black coating

Mk III 2621 dashboard

Mk IV 2801 dashboard (no close-up, sorry)

An unknown STA Mk V dashboard

An unknown MAN SL202 dashboard (I think 3257)

Mercedes 0405NH Natural Gas Bus 1396 dashboard

STA Mercedes 0405 (ex North & Western) 3530 dashboard

Close-up of 3530's speedo, showing speed, tachometer and clock. All are in working order on this bus only.

By contrast CaptainCH's 0405 No. 3533 has an 0305 steering wheel

Custom Coaches bodied STA Volvo B12BLE. I believe this dash is referred to as the Volvo B12BLE Mk I

Main display on the dashboard of Volvo B12BLE Volgren 1653. I believe this is a Volvo B12BLE Mk II

OMG that is awfull in the last shot how the hell did that awfull stupid thing end up on such a good bus?

I think it originally had its Merc Star on the centre of the wheel but someone pinched it when CaptainCH wasn't looking. Will ask him to confirm that.

Hmm but why the old wheel for its not like it is different from the gassies steering wheel

Also nice to see 3530's gearbox tempreture sitting at about 112 whilst stationary good maitanence on behalf of STA

Is there a reason no STA buses have a logo in the middle? Really detracts from the look of the bus.

They don't last very long! Although some depots are worse than others

I can remember as a schoolkid that the centre of an O305 steering wheel made for a good ash tray

Re missing steering wheel centres, PATH make their own replacements - as can be seen in actually's photo of 517's dash. Also, replacements are made for the padded area in the Renault steering wheels.

everywhere, you're not alone obviously in wanting dash photos. I just wish that someone with similar interests took photos of now long-withdrawn buses.

With regard to the removal of Merc stars from the centre of steering wheels, I had been meaning to start a topic on that. There is not a single 0305 at Ryde which still has its star - all have been pinched as souvenirs. About 2/3 of our 0405 / gas bus steering wheels still have their merc star, it is just bad luck that the ones I happened to photograph were missing.

By contrast, I have noticed that other depots' buses still have their 0305 Merc stars. I have seen them on some of the 0305 bendies and once on a Brookvale Mk IV, and I know Leichhardt's 2643 has its intact. I suspect there are others?

I agree that they make the wheel and dashboard area look quite smart, and without them just looks poorly looked after.

Actually mercedes from my experience with O405's, and specially on hot days, if he has used the retarders to pull up for a decent period of time, say like 15 secods or 20 or more, the gearbox temp guage in them always shoots up, and then goes down once u start accelerating again... assuming he has taken the photos almost straight after he has pulled up.

Were they the original steering wheels though? I know that some depots started to install a new type of wheel with a much smaller centre than the traditional O305 wheel, this had the star in the middle which doesn't come off

they have a soft texture apparently....

I recall taking this photograph quite some time after I pulled up. I took a photo of the outside, and several of the interior before snapping the dashboard, so it would have been at least 5 minutes. And yes, I know the gearbox should have been in neutral but obviously I forgot. I didn't even notice the gauge was so high :-S
