Rare and interesting car sightings

Another Volvo down the road from the beige Volvo shot.
Also seen regularly a 1970s maroon shovel nose 240 which I haven't seen in a while now.

I have been wandering around Petersham and Stanmore today. There used to be a lot of old cars around here but now there's nothing other than a 1990s Holden on a trailer. Times have changed. And the women in the takeaway I stopped at looked like they probably weren't even born when I was in high school......

I remember your regular reports of Valiants in the inner west. A sad state of affairs this is no longer a thing.

I remember when the Maroubra area had lots of oldies around compared to other parts of Sydney in the 1990s.

After my last post, I went down to Banksia to pick something up from a shop and saw an HR Holden and another one of those early 1970s Volvos.

Saw a white Renault 16 yesterday, parked in the grounds of St Andrews cathedral in the City yesterday.

Saw an immaculate looking white HK Holden Kingswood station wagon coming the other way recently. It is the first of the pre HQ shape with the metal grill and tall skinny red and blue Holden badge in the centre before the HT and HG which recieved plastic mesh grills with the freeway route shaped Holden badge.

I had a HK with all the grease nipples on the front end and crash first gear then an HG station wagon with two speed auto.

HK Premier from February last year (1 year ago). The interior was in excellent shape and quite inviting. The seats had the Holden emblem in them.

Saw an immaculate MGB coupe at Haberfield today and yet another of those boxy Volvos and a Morris Minor on the way home

Came across this Fairmont GS rally pack last week.
I would have been four when this was new.
I was only discussing the XC rally pack editions not long before I came across this and can't remember the last time I saw one!
A bit of trivia. The headlights on the XC Fairmont are the same as those on the mark 1 Grenada and the headlights on the following XD range are the same as those on the mark 2 Grenada.

I was waiting for a bus at Prince Alfred Park at Parramatta on Sunday and one of the cars that went past was an immaculate light blue or maybe green (it was night-time, so I'm not sure which it was) Peugeot 504.

I've just got back home after a few days in Canberra. I didn't see any interesting cars on the way down or while I was there but I did see some on the way back on the Hume Highway. Four hot rods, one based on a mid 50s American car heading south, and three heading north, one based on a 1920s open American car, one on a late 1920s American saloon and the other based on an early 1930s American Ford saloon. Other cars included an early to mid 1970s Ford Fairlane towing a car trailer, a two door Cadillac convertible (must have been a 1984 model, because the numberplate was CADY 84), and an early model white E type Jaguar.

I was in the City today and went through that passageway down the side of the Hilton Hotel and there were a couple of unusual cars there, as usual. One was a black Maserati SUV, which I suppose isn't that unusual, as there are a few of them around, but the other one was a blue Renault Alpine. I don't think I've seen one of them before.

Saw a red EA Falcon S pack in Vermont South on 12/3. A rare survivor, however the body looked like it sat in the sun for 35 years and it also had modern blue Vic ▼ plates.

What a shame. Your typical Australian owner.
Those things were futuristic in their day and regarded as one of the best looking large executive cars in the world.
One was sent to Germany for evaluation to compare to an Audi and Mercedes and the German crew thought the Falcon looked better than the other two.
BTW no one has shown appreciation for my photos here lately. Not putting any more up. You're a wierd lot.
