Close Market St to traffic? This plan just gets better and better.

Why would Bathurst St close to traffic? The mall only starts there.

Yes, well better to get the taxis turning right out of the way of through traffic then.

And the motorists are just as bad.

Front, 2 middle, and rear carriage now in my possession. I own a modest-sized personal monorail!

I just realised how old my street directory is. I opened it to check an address and noticed that it has the monorail route and stations marked on it. I think I need a new one. Do they still make them?

Sure do. Can pick them up at Auto stores, bookshops and maybe other places. Should still be able to get 2024 ones, but towards mid-year the supply grows scarce as they prepare for their next edition.

Still Gregory’s. I bought a 2022 edition at Officeworks for fun. I think they are still stocked there

Wish I had Gregory's from 1972 my nan had.
It traced the proposed ESR through Maroubra Junction.
Is the publisher of UBD and Gregories still based at North Ryde like they both used to?

I've got a copy of the first Gregory's street directory published in the 1930s, not that I'm that old.

Mine is published by “Hardie Grant Travel” with copyright also owned by “Tom Tom Global”. Printed in China by “Leo Paper Products” disappointingly.

That must be the reproduction released a while ago.
Great for tracing the trams.

In one place I worked at years ago, the Director had, in his office bookshelves, a Gregory's from about 1950 or so. I had a look through it a few times. The street I lived in wasn't even in it.....

In the 1935 directory, Sydney ended at Toongabbie to the west, Liverpool/Casula to the southwest, Pennant Hills/Asquith to the north.

I would have thought Blacktown would have been included but maybe back then it was considered to be country and not city.

I'm surprised though that Casula even existed back then.......

Yes it is. It's interesting to view the road (and tram) network as it then was and follow how they have developed over the years with connecting up missing links to form continuous road links like the many we now accept for granted or are still proposed. The Eastwood County Road comes to mind when Rutledge St even then was an unmade classified road across the southern perimeter of Brush Farm Park and still is.
