I got one of those SMS messages on my phone a few hours ago. It was asking people to look out for a 75 year old man who has gone missing. The message included a link to an image of the man. When I clicked on the link, it took me to Facebook and a message that I needed to log in to view the file. I don't use Facebook, so I can't log in and can't view the image.

So now I know that someone is missing but I don't know what they look like. Not a very good system, is it?

You're critical of Facebook. That's probably why you're not getting any answers here.
Police must assume Facebook membership is universal or only people that matter have an account.
That seems the attitude of people at large.

As far as I'm concerned, Facebook is a waste of time. Am I a dinosaur?

Would you make a habit of going out looking for people who are reported missing if you had access to their details?

No, but I would keep an eye out for them if I was out and about in the area concerned which, I thought, was the point of those messages
