I watched a training run come past Central about 7 this morning. It got the T light through the pedestrian crossing in Eddy Ave, and at most only waited a couple of seconds for the T light to cross Pitt St.

Maybe they are getting their act together?

I hope these street Tangaras have good pick up. They'll need it!

I timed a couple of trams on George St crossing Hay St the other day.

From a standing start it took 42 seconds to clear the intersection, with a rolling pass about 33 seconds

Sounds about right with these silly looking coupled sets.
I have a hunch they will get separated, if for no other reason motorists complaints.

They can't separate them for capacity reasons, without halving the frequency. Two minute separations more likely to result in bunching.

Two single trams would probably require more cumulative crossing time than one double set

I would agree but would we be able to convince the motorists of that?

Do you seriously ever think before you type? All I'm seeing is word vomit and dismissive comments. I've said this before: these are not "Street Tangaras"; these are proper genuine trams! And they're just as valid as any other model of tram, old and new. Hell you might as well call EVERY modern articulated tram a "Street Tangara" if that's your type of attitude. And none of it comes with constructive critique. Why even bother? To be edgy and get attention? You're just full of XXX most of the time, and also inconsistent. One moment your showing enthusiasm for this project, the next you're calling it a "glorified travelator". Then you give the trams (which they definitely are trams) mild praise, the next you call them "silly looking" and deride them for being coupled, despite Sydney's original system operating this way. You wanna talk about how "silly looking" the old toast racks were too? I just don't get you. You need to take several seats, then come back when have something worthy of typing. Just quit being an idiot cause no one's impressed.

Has been made clear on a number of occasions that they will operate as doubles.

At least this idiot strives to use the right wording when expressing himself.
EDIT You might want to look at this O-train from Canada instead of getting so personal.

If he got hit by a bus or a car, it probably wouldn't make the news.

I was at Chalmers St yesterday morning; a tram was just leaving, heading towards Devonshire St and the pedestrian lights went green just before the tram got there, and it had to brake suddenly.

The video suggests little anticipation by the driver - seemingly no slackening of acceleration and, more significantly, no use of the bell. It can be seen in the distance that he victim was acting in an unstable manner. Important to "read" the actions of pedestrians as you approach.

No audio, so you can't hear whether a bell was rung.

The kid definitely hadn't recognised the approaching tram, was focused on the other one, and his mates on the other side
Given the timing of his approach, can only assume he was trying to impress his mates by jumping over the join between the two sets.

These trams are generally operated slower than the old trams but quieter. Use of the bell is going to be very important. We haven't seen anything yet compared to what will come with electric buses. The Yutong has an electronic bell but I don't know what sort of signal the BYD has. As a side note, it raises the question in my mind of what sort of warning signal the old Sydney trolley buses had.

It looks like he was trying to cross the tracks, but there was already a tram on the other side in the way. It even looks like he did this deliberately. Good on the cops for fining him, they should do this more often.

Gongs, horns, whistles, reversing alarms, even sirens on emergency vehicles, do not seem to register with a lot of people.

The Citadis X05 here has the same bell as the Inner West Urbos trams...which is then the same bell as Melbournes E Class. That bell sound, I am growing quite fond of it.
