Sounds like someone is trying to discredit the bus for being fully shipped here and not produced by a beloved local body builder.
One more thing should be mentioned: the demonstrator Citaro was equipped with a Voith 4-speed gearbox which is not good at high-speed services as it makes the engine sounds noisy, such as any routes via the southern busway like 111, 150, 140, 130, etc. Most services via the busway are utilising ZF gearbox except some CNG buses (MAN CNG bendy), but it doesn't matter because the CNG engine is fine in high engine speed and even they need high engine speed for better torque.
Umm, that's easily addressed and doesn't exactly preclude the bus from consideration on it's own.

The CNG engine found on the Brisbane MANs are a low-revving engine with high stroke to bore ratio and high displacement. Peak torque is produced over a wide 700 rpm "window" that allows good performance no matter what gearbox is selected. The engine is not especially powerful compared to more modern diesel engines, but the performance figures are more than adequate for most city bus applications. The engine does not benefit from being revved high.

The Citaro had a much lower displacement engine, relatively short final drive ratio and low profile tyres. It was designed for urban environments with low average speeds. The above is indicative that high engine speeds are required for anything more than average road speeds before you even consider the different gearboxes, and yes, the Voith is at a distinct disadvantage in this case.

Alright, so a couple of years have passed, is there any change in our imports rule?

So much in such a small space, but the engine compartment does extend up into the passenger area with the loss of two seats in rear row.

^ looks like you need to be a rocketry engineer to design all that!!

The Citaro has been put on Mercedes-Benz.com.au for half of a year. Does it mean something?
