Services Changes across the Transperth Bus Network

Sun 03 Feb
From Sunday 3 February 2019, there will be a number of service changes across the bus network.
In addition of those mentioned above, there's other several changes for listed in those timetables.

A timed stop for route 353 to Bassendean Station will be reinstated on Altone Road after Raid Highway.

Stop name changes for Perth CAT
  • Yellow CAT stop 16/23: Perth Arena → Arena
  • Yellow CAT stop 20: Princess Margaret Hospital → Thomas Street
I think that the stop name for Perth Blue CAT should be updated as well, however those are not in the timetable yet.
  • Blue CAT stop 7: Central Institute → TAFE
  • Yellow CAT stop 3: Central Institute → East Perth TAFE

It's surprising the extension to the 500 wasn't included on the map given that it's quite a significant, even if it's only once a day in each direction (how are passengers supposed to find out the planned routing otherwise?). While on the topic, it's a shame there wasn't a more significant trial of extensions to Fremantle via Bicton that don't specifically cater for school-kids; Booragoon lacks direct connectivity to Canning Highway west of Riseley Street.

Loss of trips on the 510, 525, 535 and 536 in particular aren't terribly surprising, although it doesn't look as if the losses are very drastic.
The 510 is an intriguing case. Given the size and proximity of Bateman and Brentwood to Murdoch or Bull Creek train stations, I wonder whether the 500 and 505 could be combined, with the 510 removed altogether? This would likely mean dropping the feeder service to Bull Creek entirely. With both suburbs within 1km of the train station, it comes as no surprise such small suburbs can't support a particularly frequent service.

Free late-night Fringe CAT buses revved up for arts festival

A special event late-night Fringe CAT will be running between festival venues from January 22 to March 3 to help passengers get to and from FRINGE WORLD Festival entertainment hubs.

Transport Minister Rita Saffioti announced the special services at the Girls School venue in East Perth, where acclaimed performance A Midnight Visit will be staged.

The free Fringe Red CAT will run a special route on a 15-minute frequency between Perth Busport and various Fringe Festival venues, including at Girls School.

Services will operate from around 7pm to 9.45pm during the week, with extended Fringe CATs running to about midnight on Friday and Saturday nights.

Passengers who use the Fringe CAT will be urged to provide their feedback on the extended service as part of a wider ongoing consultation into the Central Area Transit (CAT) bus services.

The consultation will help guide the future of the highly popular free CAT services, including any potential future time or route extensions.

So far more than 500 people have provided feedback on the CAT services via the My Say Transport website, with eight in 10 passengers saying they were satisfied or very satisfied with the existing services. The survey is open until January 31.

For more information on Transperth services or to plan your journey, visit the Transperth website or call the Transperth InfoLine on 13 62 13.
Also, from next Monday, additional short-working 425's will operate between Stirling and Karrinyup.

For the route 500, the route extend as follows:

To Fremantle: Normal route to Booragoon, then continue via Route 160 until Davy Street, then R North Lake Road, L Canning Highway, R Hislop Road, continue via route 148/158 to Fremantle.

To Bull Creek: From Fremantle Station, following with the route 148/158 until Canning Highway, then R North Lake Road, L Davy Street, continue via Route 160 until Booragoon Bus Station, then resume normal route to Bull Creek Station.

(Note: the trip from Fremantle Station is not shown using the online timetable, while it shows on the other way round.)

Thanks Shinji - the description on the TP website that "Selected trips will extend to Fremantle Station via Bicton on school days. This will improve school travel to from East Fremantle, Bicton and Attadale to Melville Senior High School" left me a tad confused.

It will be interesting to see how busy the extension gets. :D

I was confused too until the school bus changes stated the Booragoon Bus Station to Melville SHS service would connect with the 500 extension. As an ex teacher at Applecross SHS, the extension will save some students having to race up/down the hill to make the 158 bus

With regards to 425 service changes:
The timetable shows services almost every 10 minutes from Stirling, 6:04 - 7:24 am, Monday to Saturday (more frequent I think than even the 950 on Saturdays), which is curious. I wonder what's taking place at Karrinyup (compared to other shopping centres too).

Yes it is very intriguing! The trips are specifically targeted. My guess is that with construction now commenced on the shopping centre upgrade at Karrinyup and reduced parking in effect, there is not likely many available long-term parking bays for workers on-site to access. Makes sense to try get some of them to park and ride at Stirling (or other stations and take the train).

A similar situation occurred at QEII during the Children's Hospital construction which resulted in very high demand on early morning 950 services needing to be met with artic use and an additional early morning trip being introduced.

As part of conditional development approval, the shopping centre is required to pay Transperth to operate additional services during opening hours throughout the week, on route 423 or 425 - can't remember which one, but intended to bring the daytime frequency to every 15 minutes on one of those routes. They are also constructing bus priority lanes along Karrinyup Rd ready in time for the shopping centre expansion to open. A similar condition is in place at Westfield Innaloo for them to fund bus route enhancements in the area.

There's some time changes for the TransBunbury Service.
Mostly are minor time changes, one of the notable changes is the last 826 trip on Saturdays and Sundays to Bunbury Bus Station, also the last 826 trip on Sundays to Bunbury Terminal will be departing 2 hours earlier than the time currently.

Requirement? Firstly I’m well aware of the forum guidelines and I don’t mean to come across as rude but I’ve never come across a forum where the rules are so militantly enforced also secondly I’m certain that 99% of forum members are intelligent enough to figure out where a source has come from without it needing to be unnecessarily “verified” and thirdly no wonder why visitors numbers are dwindling maybe it’s the moderators that have an issue with misinterpreting information, no reason to shoot the messenger every time they don’t comply with the “rules”

No one is trying to "militantly" enforce the rules. It should be common sense that if you are going to post any content which is not of your own creation (such as information, photos etc), that you credit or reference the original author/creator. In this case, I actually tried to search for the information on the web but alas I could not find anything and since two of the posts above did not have any reference to where the information was found, naturally I (and others I'm sure) would be rightfully curious about where it came from (or in this case, which method). Stating that it came from an email alert in the initial post would have removed any doubt. As this thread should be purely for service change discussion, please contact me via PM if you would like to discuss the matter further.

Can someone tell me why the Route 4 service is not published in a timetable? If it is not suitable for publication in the CAT timetable, what about publishing it in Timetable 33 (Routes 27 and 28)?

Route 4 is just a (peak flow) supplementary service to the Red CAT, as is the West Perth Loop (002). Both provide additional capacity when it is needed on the Red CAT. This does not affect the frequency guide that is provided for the Red CAT (still a bus arriving approximately every 5 minutes or better) and thus services can be altered as necessary and may not always operate precisely to the scheduled timetable (which the data for can be found online). Supplementary services also operate on the Yellow CAT between West Perth and Perth Station on weekdays between 3-4pm to assist with heavy loading generated by Watertown.

Supplementary (double bank) services also operate on a variety of other routes which do not appear on the timetable, typically on selected days or school term/uni semester days only. Routes 60, 950 and CircleRoute are a few off the top of my head. They typically depart at or a few mins before the normal timetabled service and either traverse the full route or at least a section of it.

Nothing. Circle Route will still operate through CUBS, and 201 will terminate at CUBS.

Cheers!
